RE: On this day (5th December) George Custer was born!
Howdy sir towjam! Yes Custer was quite the controversial figure! I thought about doing a series on him and probably will at some point but your article here is a great synopsis of his life and the video is very good too, I really enjoyed this post!
Hi there @janton thanks for the comment.
I know you're the master at history like this...and I would love to read about the man in more detail. My main reason for doing it on him was the date correlation to his birthday...and most people tend to know about him in some way or another.
He seemed like quite an attention seeker, and when his wife started using his 'martyrdom' to get attention, then it seemed to be a Custer personality trait LOL
haha! yes sir towjam there is quite a lot of rich material there to explore, the couple were both unique personalities and a good fit it seems. Mrs. Custer was a good friend of Wild Bill Hickok even though General Custer was not, just because the General was gone most of the time and their paths didn't cross much. Mrs. Custer was at the same fort that Wild Bill was stationed at between his comings and goings and they became friends. It was rumored that they were lovers but that was just rumors flying. Wild Bill did have quite a strict ethics code concerning such things and respected the marriage vows as a sacred covenant.
You see....life is way more interesting than fiction!
Thanks for all the information you share...it is so interesting.
