18 years ago, the nuclear submarine K-141 Kursk was lost in the Barents Sea.
The nuclear submarine of the project Antey, K-141 Kursk, was constructed in 1990 in Severodvinsk at the Northern Machine Building Enterprise. It was put into operation on December 30, 1994. From 1995 to 2000, she served in the Northern Fleet of Russia.
Submarine Kursk on August 10, 2000 went to sea for training. On board there were 118 crewmen, led by the captain of the boat captain I rank G. Lyachin
According to the plan of military exercises, on the morning of August 12, the cruiser was conventionally attacked by a cruise missile "Granit" with a squadron led by a heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov and the flagship of the fleet by the nuclear cruiser Pyotr Veliky. But, the planned attack did not happen. The crew ceased to communicate.
At 14.50 the ships and helicopters of the navy began to inspect the perimeter, trying to find a submarine, but the attempts were unsuccessful. At 23.00 the military leadership already understood that the submarine was wrecked.
August 13, 2000 (Sunday) began the search for "Kursk". At 4.51 in the morning, the "Peter the Great" cruiser found an "anomaly" at the bottom of the sea, which, as it turned out, was a sunken submarine.
Only on Monday, August 14, 2000, at 11 am the Navy first reported the tragedy on the Kursk. There is a lot of fake information. It is reported that communication with the crew is established, called the date of the accident on August 13, reported that the damage is minor.
All this, turn out to be lies and rumors. In reality, the military is frantically looking for options to save the crew, without resorting to the help of other states.
Unfortunately, weak technical equipment, total lies and secrecy, inept leadership and fear of taking responsibility, led to the death of the whole team. All 118 people were killed.
