RE: Ah....the Good Old Days. Wait, What Good Old Days?
I think it's easy to find bad things that happened in every decade. There's an awful lot of good things that came out of the 80's and 90's. Take computing and the internet. Those creations really blossomed in the 80's and 90's.
I'm one of those who say the good old days. I was born in the 70's, I'm now in my 40's and have earned the right to say it. The world has changed a lot and in my opinion for the better and for the worse.
It's natural for younger generations to dismiss the experience and wisdom of past generations. It's a dangerous thing. And equally dangerous is when older generations ignore the younger as naive and idealistic.
Just like all decades have good and bad, so do generations of people. There's good and bad habits and cultures that we all take from our respective decades of formative development. We just need to work together.
As the say 'can't we all just get along?'. Great post @lauralemons. Good discussion stemming from it. :)
PS. To me the 80's and 90's were the good ol days. I don't care what people say.
That was pretty much my point. I wasn't trying to say nothing good happened in the earlier generations, just that there was no idyllic time as some suggest. They all had bad and even now there are many great things. I would be screwed living with my diseases in the 70's because now medical advancements have gotten to a point where I can be treated but back then there was no treatment for my suffering. So, there are reasons I am bad to be in this decade even though it may not be my favorite.
I'm only about to be 30 but even I prefer the 90's for many reasons to right now but I'd again be screwed medically back then. So, there are pros and cons. :)
I've been around a couple of decades more than you, and I can verify that each decade had its good and its bad... but I do believe everything is getting progressively better overall. This is a bloody great time to be alive.
Thanks for the input and if not for being biased due to needing modern medicine I would say the 90's were my preference. XD
