Waiting for the steam ship.
In this series of 3 ancient photographs that I got from Khabarovsk State Regional Archive
photographed group meeting arriving in the city of Khabarovsk steam ship. Amur River is the most important transport artery, and more than 100 years ago it was through it that the main transportation of people arriving to the region participating in the resettlement program to the Far East.
The first steamships on the Amur were state-owned, relatively low-powered, slow-moving and inefficient. However, unlike the western basins, where shipping originated much earlier and began with a wooden fleet, the Amur immediately began to accept ships from the metal. Only some domestic vessels had wooden hulls: steam boilers and machines for them were ordered in Western countries, and hulls made of wood were built in the Amur shipyards, most often in Blagoveshchensk.
On this third on account photos pictured major passenger steam vessel, worthwhile at berth on river bank of city of Khabarovsk.
