Lake View In The Pines - Lake St. Catherine, VT

in #history7 years ago (edited)

Lake View In The Pines was on of Lake St. Catherine’s great hotels and was built on the site of the current State Park. The main building stood where the State Park Nature Museum now stands, There was a chapel believed to be on the hotel property, roughly in the area of the beach parking lot, and cottagers came by boat on Sunday Mornings to attend service. The Hotel was built in 1867 and burned down in 1916.
One of Vermont’s most scenic post offices, St. Catherine, was located in the Lake View House and served summer vacationers and the mail was delivered to lake residents, other than hotel guests, by Grace B. Underwood, the steamboat which was connected with the Lake View.

This resort has been compared by many “as beautiful as Lake Como,” “as charming as Killarney,” and “as wild as Loch Lomond.” For more than 25 years it has nestled under the pines, and has been recognized as having many claims as a popular summer resort. The shores of the lake are wooded to the water’s edge, except where the bold rocks frown upon the water, and the long stretch of Sandy Beach gives pleasure to those who enjoy bathing.
