BEAT BREAK DOWN pt.1-CRY'S OF DESTINY

Melody and counter Melody's

I'm going to start with the main melody fairly basic but not to simple. i composed this base melody and all the rest in major bebop. No it wasn't an intentional scale to wright this in but it happened i played a 4th octave C and D note back and forth to present an atmospheric thing. While playing a little bit of a shuffling melody at the 5th octave between the notes F,E,D and C.

This came out to look something like this:

On the right hand side i have the reference scale if any one want to use or or just didn't know what note's are in major bebop.

Now next i'm going to explain what i did to get that loud brass section sound. This is honestly so easy its stupid just saying. So all i did the was layer the same 4th octave notes over the main melody giving that strong driving sound to the lower notes.

So far pretty simple stuff. Same for the melody in the hook's/chorus. i used the base synth that i showed you to start and kinda dumb'ed it down with the same notes being played. For this i used one long D note in the 4th octave while playing the notes F,E,D 3 times. thee playing a small lick that went G,F,E,F to keep things interesting.

The result of this looked like this:

The Drums

This is where things got interesting(more of a pain in the ass ). So lets start with the kicks this was fairly simple to do and looks and probably seems more complex than it is.I found a kick with a higher pitch,low pitch and a mid range pitch.

Once i found the kick's i made a kick pattern all 3 kick fallow the same pattern it give a really punchy sound to them.
Along with doing a rough EQ of the kicks in the mixer.

this all cam together to look like :

(the highlighted portion is the kicks.)
Ok Then i did whats called side chaining this is a process of making the volume of the beat jump just a bit when the kick plays . This is done with fruity limiter by lowering the threshold of the limiter and playing with the knee and ratio knobs.

so after we get all that we end up with this:

the blue lines is where the volume of the kick raises giving the beat more movement.(specifically the drums) Okay so
now on to the
snare. the snare is a mix of a clap layered over a snare. Once i made the snare pattern i put them on the same mixer Chanel and took out the low end sounds and raised the mid frequency's

So the EQ loos like this: (lower right hand side of the screen)

and the pattern looks like this (honestly this is all but a standard snare loop):

And last but not least the hi-hat's. I didn't use any fancy roles or any of that. I did an normal double timed hi-hat pattern with the first hi hat hitting harder than the second and this pattern continues all the way through just like that. along with also layering a second hi-hat with it(i know i used a lot of layers normaly i don't but you know).

Past that i did some parametric EQ and a few other small things like using a heavy reverb on the snare through the hook/chorus but that's it for this beat break down guys.
