The potential of CBD hemp oil in treating arthritis and MS

In October 2015, conclusions were drawn from two studies with animals dealing with the transdermal application of cannabidiol (CBD) in the case of two separate diseases. The results were very hopeful in both cases.

CBD hemp oil and multiple sclerosis
The results were published by two American scientists in the European Journal of Pain Research. These scientists were dealing with the influence of gel with CBD content (daily dose of 0.6/3.1/ 6.2 or 62.3 mg) on inflammatory processes in a mouse model of arthritis pain. Specifically, a model of joint arthritis was treated with the CBD gel for 4 days.

According to the conclusion, "the transdermal gel with CBD content significantly reduced the swelling, depending on the dose, alleviating the pain of extremities, protecting against the infiltration of the immunity cells and reduced inflammatory processes in synovial membranes". The most effective dosage was a daily dose of 6.2 and 62 mg of CBD, whereas pattern recognition capabilities were not impacted, suggesting that this application of CBD has only limited effect on higher brain functions.

The conclusion of the second study was presented in the journal DARU: Journal of Faculty and Pharmacy, Teheran University of Medical Sciences. It highlights the following: topical cream with 1% purified CBD (crystalline powder with at least 98% content of CBD) helps with only 1 application daily, effectively fighting inflammatory processes in the brain. The cream was tested on rodents with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, which represents a mouse model of multiple sclerosis.

In conclusion, researchers have "surprisingly" shown that the 1% CBD cream "has a neuroprotective effect, improves the paralysis of the hind limbs, alleviates spinal cord disorders as well as lowers unwanted production of lymphocytes in the spleen and further inflammatory cytokines".
