In Which RoscoHead investigates the merits of BlockChain publishing
Hi all!
I'm one of those geeks who has always been interested in block-chain technology, but never found time to get into it. Most people have heard of BitCoin, but there's a veritable myriad of other block-chain driven entities out there, and you can store pretty much anything in block-chains these days!
So what piqued my interest enough to finally put some time in? Well, it's a long story. Are you sitting comfortably? Good, then I'll begin...
I've always loved music - listening to it, playing it, discussing it, arguing about it. It has always been part of my life, and now that my life is probably closer to the end than the start, I find myself still involved playing in bands, and wanting to share my music. Now there's lots of ways to share music, and one of the ways I had chosen was sharing videos on YouTube. It's watched and used by pretty much anyone with an internet connection, and until recently, it was fairly easy for someone with a modicum of talent to make some income from it.
Cue the capitalists. We know Google are only in it to make squillions, but until recently, they were happy to share with content producers, even poor lowly people who might only be making them a few hundred bucks a year. But now they've decided to increase the threshold yet again, and make it pretty much impossible for the small producers to make any money at all. So, having worked hard to produce content for YouTube, we now find that your fan base is more important than your content if you want to make any income.
Which stinks.
So in looking for alternatives, someone pointed me to DTube. Looks interesting I thought. Browsed some of the videos, looks pretty much like YouTube I thought. Clicked the Login button... What's this? I need a [steemit] account? I had heard of steemit, but thought it was about articles, not videos. So that got me intrigued enough to go and sign up to steemit. And almost a week later, here I am!
And rest assured, I will be trying out all this platform has to offer, including DTube, over the next few weeks, in an effort to work out whether or not it can help us share our work. And make even a tiny income from it. Because that's getting harder and harder these days.
