İlk kez 2008 yılında cypherpunk mail gruplarına forwardladığı "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”(Bence okuyun hacılar sadece 9 sayfa notu, düşülerek) mail ile ortaya çıkan Satoshi Nakamoto,bitcointalk forumlarında 2009 yılında aşırı aktif iken en son postunu 2010 aralık ayında atmış ve ortadan kaybolmuştur.Yaklaşık bir milyon bitcoin bulunan hesabından hiç bir aktivite yapılmamıştır.Kim olduğu hala muamma olan Satoshi´nin bir grup değilde bir kişi olduğu, bitcoin codunun yazılma şekline bakılarak iddia edilmektedir."Banking on bitcoin" belgeselinde şüphe okları,bitcoine çok benzeyen "bit gold" kurucusu Nick Sbazo ile ilk bitcoin transferini gerçekleştiren,bitcoin emekleme döneminde Satoshi ile yoğun şekilde mailleşip gelişimine katkıda bulunan 2009 yılında sağlığı bozulmaya başlayıp,2014 yılında hayattan ayrılan Hal Finney üzerindedir.
