Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Exodus 11:1-4

Congratulations if you are still with me! We have knocked out another chapter in Exodus. We are starting chapter 11 today and I think the days of Far'oh (Pharaoh) hardening his heart (making it strong that is) are over.

So today, we are reading about Moshe (Moses) getting back from being kicked out from Far'oh's presence and he is talking with the Creator again. YHVH is telling Moshe that there will be one last plague and, after it is over, Far'oh will let them leave. He goes on to say that they will be completely expelled, likely with anger on top of just permission.

God then instructs Moshe to tell all the women to go to their neighbors and ask them for gifts like jewelry and money. He says that He has given them a heart of favor so that they will receive what they are asking for. Moshe already had a reputation of truth in addition to the favor God grants. His trustworthiness when it comes to his predictions has made people respect him. He is very good at informing them of what will happen after all. We know it is all God doing it but they just trust Moshe.

Then Moshe lets the people in on a secret. That God is going to go out around midnight throughout Mitsraim (Egypt) and... (which is for next week).

The story is heading toward one of the most important parts of Judaism. The Pesach. Again, God himself speaks often about this miracle that he brought about throughout scriptures. It is remembered yearly in the Seder celebrations world-wide. I believe we will be getting into the meat of history as we progress from this point onward.

Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry." And YHVH gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants and in the sight of the people.
So Moses said, "Thus says the Lord: About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt...
