THE LORD KNOWS YOUR SITUATION

📜TEXT:2 KINGS 14:17-28📜

According to (KJV) 2 Kings 14:17-28

[17]And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.[18]And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?[19]Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

[20]And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.[21]And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.[22]He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

[23]In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.[24]And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

[25]He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher.[26]For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

[27]And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.[28]Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

🔑📖KEY VERSE: "For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel" (2 KINGS 14:26).

When you look at birds in a cage, you will notice that these creatures entirely depend on those who feed them. They cannot help themselves; if grains and water are not supplied, they will die. Yet, they sit and sing with all their might. They never think that their keeper will fail them.

From the text, we read of the reign and death of Amaziah in Judah and the coronation of his son Azariah, who built Elath and restored it to Judah. During the reign of Jeroboam II, the son of Joash, he did evil in the sight of the Lord but he was used to restoring the coast of Israel, from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the plain. This was done to fulfil the word of the Lord, which He spoke through Jonah, the prophet. He had compassion for Israel because of their affliction and they had no one to help them. That being the case, God used Jeroboam to restore the coast so that Israel could return and inhabit the land without fear.

Believers in Christ, though assured of God's continual favour, protection and other manifold blessings, may have experiences contrary to what they expect. Most times, these stormy situations are orchestrated by the devil to divert their attention from what the Lord has ordained them to do and to divert the plan of God for their lives.

The Lord, in His infinite knowledge and mercies, has made available to you many promises in the Bible, which you can hold on to in times of turbulence. You need to trust the Lord and rely on His precious promises no matter what betides. Remember, God knows your situation. His mighty providence cannot fail as long as you commit yourself and your needs to Him in faith.

✍🏽THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God's providence never fails His children at any time.

📜THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: NUMBERS 8-10📜

    *MEDITATION*

Can God use evil people?

1. An example of when God used the wicked to save His people
a. Jeroboam was an evil king in the sight of the Lord, v24.
b. God sent Jonah to prophesy to him and used him to restore the lost coast of Israel, v25.
c. God also used him to deliver His people from their bitter afflictions in the hands of cruel oppressors, vv26,27.
d. Observe that God used the wicked Jeroboam to deliver His people while Amaziah, the king of a more righteous Judah, had no record of being used of God, vv18,19.

2. Essentials lessons from God using the wicked
a. Don't always expect that it is only the righteous God can use to save or help His people. Let God have His way and don't be rigid.
b. The fact that God uses someone is never an approval of the life of that person. He may still end up in hell, Matthew 7:22,23.
c. God is the Creator of all and therefore He has the right to use anybody for any purpose, Revelation 4:12.
d. God used animals to communicate to man and why not man, regardless of the mental and moral state of the man?, Numbers 22:28-30.
e. Objects or people that God used are not necessarily to be followed for example. Your helper need not be your god. God is still God to be worshipped and followed.

Question
What other lessons do you learn from this?

3. Why God at times uses the wicked to deliver or help the righteous
a. by the position, anointing or power He has given the person. Who could have saved Israel from the enemy if not for the King? v27.
b. When there is no better alternative. In this case, there was "no help for Israel". Any better alternative to run-away Moses for the deliverance of Israel?
c. "For His name sake" so that His name will not be put into disrepute being a merciful, gracious and all-powerful God.

Prayer points

Ask God to help you never to be deceived and replace righteousness with gifts or exploits for God and humanity🙏
Ask for grace to end up your life's journey in righteousness and not to be derailed🙏
Pray for understanding and restoration of ministers that are already deceived by power, positions, gifts and exploits 🙏
