Make health and fitness a LIFESTYLE - FITNESS MINDSET (PSYCHOLOGY)
HOW CAN YOU START AND SUSTAIN A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?
So #steemians, I recently did a collab video with one of India's biggest fitness youtubers, Mr. Ranveer Allahbadia from BeerBiceps. With his help, I was able to clear up some of my own doubts as well as come to an understanding as to how I should go about making fitness a lifestyle and not just a temporary thing that I am taking up for the time-being. He was able to lay out 3 SIMPLE TIPS and SOLUTIONS that ANYONE CAN USE STARTING RIGHT NOW!
SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
1. AVOID DESSERTS.
Typically these are laden with calories and though you shouldn't typically be counting your calories and should be focusing on doing the simple things right! The thing is desserts are typically low in nutritional value and they never seem to make you full! We are driven to seek out and eat the things that are easily available. Among these, sweets and chocolates are particularly dangerous.
SOLUTION: Find other kinds of junk food to eat that are less calorie dense and provide you some form of nutritional value so that you can enjoy what you eat and still get something out of it. Some snacks that are advisable are salted nuts (like almonds, pistachios, peanuts) seeds (pumpkin), fruits, greek yoghurt, protein bars etc.
But remember, AVOID HIGH CALORIE DESSERTS.
2. FIND BALANCE
You need to make a lifestyle for yourself that you know will be sustainable. Far too often you find people jumping into something that they can't stick to. Be it eating salads or something that you do not enjoy, if you are going to STAY HEALTHY, you have to think about the long term health benefits and at the same time, have a life for yourself. Create some sort of balance between the things that you love, and the things that you know you should love in order to stay fit and healthy. That will allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds! Stay FIT (but, always remember to have fun every now and then).
SOLUTION: Have about 1 or 2 cheat meals in a week, but AVOID CHEAT DAYS. This is for the simple reason that this can totally throw you off track from the lifestyle that you are trying to create. Remember, it takes just a few weeks of crappy eating and lack of exercise to ruin your progress.
START LOVING THE HEALTHY AND FIT LIFESTYLE. Never feel that you are depriving yourself, because you aren't. You are making changes that you know are going to benefit you. So love yourself, love the changes you are making and KEEP CRUSHING YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE!
3. SET GOALS THAT ARE SPECIFIC TO YOUR NEEDS
Are you so overweight or skinny that you decide to try the next new fad that will get you 'quick results' ? If you are anything like me, you may have tried a wide variety of diets- keto, paleo, intermittent fasting (the list is endless really). Or it just might be that you are looking to get a six pack and or look like Dwayne Johnson or something.
It is important to have goals, but also remember to enjoy the process. This is how you develop discipline. In that, are you doing it for something short-term, or are you in it for the long haul. This is something that you have to ask yourself. This is what shapes you brain taking you one step closer towards what you want.
SOLUTION: Make short and long term goals that are realistic and something that you can work towards.
STAY ACTIVE. Remember to keep your body moving in some form or another. Find some people who share a similar passion for health and fitness and hang around more with them. Join them at a sport. Change it up so that you have options and never get bored of staying fit and fabulous!
At the end of the day, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO PSYCHOLOGY.
WHAT YOU THINK, WHAT YOU SAY TO YOURSELF. THESE MATTER!
Diet- It implies that at some point you are going to be off of it.
Nutrition- Fuelling your body with what it needs to stay energetic and fit.
Working out- Doing something without a plan
Training- Having a certain POA with a specific goal that you are working towards.
Just changing what you say to yourself, can ultimately change how you think and feel about fitness and health.
POWER TIP: Apply this to things that you dislike about health and fitness and then over time, watch the magic!
