Shatavari Tea and my experiences with it's Adrenal Gland/PMS/IBD benefits

in #health8 years ago

Shatavari/satavar/shatamull is a plant derived from the species of asparagus and is used in Ayurvedic medicine claiming to have several health benefits, especially for the female reproductive system. I had a pack sitting on my shelf for the longest time, thinking I had no real use for it as I wasn't in menopause or breast feeding- but after my last flare up with Ulcerative colitis I knew it had potential. Not exclusive to women- men can also benefit from this tea.

Upon more side reading into some of these teas I'm putting into my body, I’ve discovered some interesting facts about Shatavari tea (Asparagus Racemosus) relating to aiding in healing the digestive tract.

Studies in rats with ulcers (stomach) were induced with Asparagus Racemosus and showed moderately potent anti-ulcer activity. A separate study rats were induced to diarrhea to see how the extracted herb effected intestinal motility. The result was anti-diarrhoeal and anti-slow intestinal transit (aka constipation) effects.

The second I was admitted to the hospital during my 2nd flare up this summer, I was immediately prescribed and loaded with 60mg of Prednisone ( a horrible immuno-suppressant used to stall inflammation) It had worked to bring my inflammation down in the moment, but along with it my immune system.

Side effects are horrendous: my own have been hearing loss, heart palpitations, insomnia, cystic acne, mood swings, weight loss, swelling from water retention and chronic fatigue. With my past studies in biomedical sciences, I have come to some conclusion that prior to being diagnosed with IBD, my Lymphatic system was in complete turmoil, perhaps a major cause and effect. (Which by the way- conventional doctors never want to look at cause, only effect.) So as I am making good progress in my remission of UC symptoms, I am being held back by the effects of Prednisone as I slowly taper off of it. Wish I could go cold turkey, but stubbornly did that last year and felt like I almost died. Cortisol levels didn't have time to reload.

(Ironically- the hospital I was admitted to was named after Osler)

I have been drinking this tea for approximately 40 days now.

Bottom line is that this time around I can actually feel the differences with my adrenal fatigue symptoms. They are less. Less acne, less fatigue, less feeling like a complete mess. Of course there are other factors within my "healing protocol" that have aided in my remission, but I know Shatavari benefits me every day with more than 1 ailment. I've observed the effects on my mood and body minutes after drinking it. Not to mention it makes me a little horny so the enhanced libido claims may be on point.

I enjoy mine brewed with coconut milk/almond milk + green tea matcha, sometimes fresh peppermint or ginger.
