ACNE
Acne otherwise known as pimples of growing up, affect some and not others on the most treasured part of the youth anatomy-the face between the ages of 12 and 25. Pimples occur when the sweat pores on the face are blocked by dirt or excess oily secretion from the glands. The blockage prevents the substances accumulating in the gland from escaping as the normal oil on the face. The glands swell to a size that can be seen. A pimple can become very excruciating and even discharge pus if it gets infected. Many pimples together make the disorder called ACNE.
HOW COME ABOUT IT
Pimples appear because of the raging battle of the hormones in the body at the time of adolescence especially testosterone. They may be aggravated by taking:
- Too much oil in foods.
- Fatty foods like butter and margarine
- Nuts, particularly groundnuts are well know stimulants of growth of pimples.
Those who have many pimples envy those who do not have them and this causes psychological stress. It's unfair to keep pointing out pimples on the face of your friend, it could easily be your turn tomorrow.
WHAT DO I DO??
Simple methods often help reduce pimple attacks which go in cycles.
Get to know the nature of your face, is it usually dry or oily. If its usually dry cool, but if it's not, take the following precautions, it can help.
Wash your face regularly, three or four times a day, with a simple non-perfumed soap and water, to keep the pores open.
Leave your pimples severely alone. Touching them, pulling at them, caressing them, scratching them when they itch will all introduce infection, inflammation and they will bleed and become abscesses which are difficult to treat and will leave scars on your face. If left alone, most pimples in young people will go away by themselves over time but some can be very stubborn especially appearing under stress like getting ready for examinations, a date or a party.
However, some youth may need to see a doctor if the pimples are an inconvenience or become infected.
The doctor may prescribe some creams or tablets or even antibiotics in the short term to clear the skin or suppress the hormones that causes pimples.
Be warned that you should never take any prescription that is not given by a doctor - your face is precious.
Never, ever do damage to your pimples by squeezing them, tearing them, puncturing them or even cutting them off - some youth are so desperate and cut them off before an activity. You will surely grow out of them.
Oily skin creams block the pores and make pimples worse. For those who have oily face, never use skin lightening creams under any circumstances. They are often toxic, dangerous and can cause kidney failure.
