Physical Activities In A Technology Influenced Era

Nowadays people are more dependent on technology instead of physical activities. They are the body movements which uses energy to maintain health. Being a parent, I consider they are vital for child's development and lays a foundation for healthy and active life.

Usually we hear such messages, " The children aren't getting physical activities".

Why is that so?
When we talk about physical activities in early stage we don't want children to go to gym for exercise. It means we want them to play and explore the environment.

Yesterday, I went to an event which was arranged by Government Of Pakistan (Sindh) to make awareness of sports among youth and I found it's a wonderful idea.

Importance

1.In Infants:

A parent should allow a baby to move around (supervised), floor based play throughout is recommended. Instead of playpens and extended time on strollers, carseats and high chairs. Once a child start walking independently, most physical activities come from their active play.

2.Children and youth:

The most important age where physical activity means alot. An active and healthy lifestyle helps children to become more flexible, maintain a healthy body weight, to be a bright student and lower the risk of several disease.
Being a mother, I always appreciate my son to go out and take part in such activities you can have a look below,

It's very easy if families do these things toghther as a part of daily routine.

Ages

A very important thing we need to discuss over here that activities should be according to age group.

  1. 0-12 months: Floor based games, pushing, pulling and tummy time.
  2. 1-2 years: Try and explore new things, unorganised sports, throwing, walking etc.
  3. 6-9 years: Playing tag, walking to school, skating, gymnastic and skiing.
  4. 10-12 years: Participate in team sports, strength training with lighter weights (supervised), martial arts, hiking, pushups etc.
  5. 13-17 years: Cycling, walking, household chores, competitive and non-competitive sports and so on.

3. For Special Need Children:

Everyone in society has equal rights to play. These kind of activities are necessary for special needs children. To choose the appropriate activity for a special child is most important factor.

Some games for special children may be:

Matching Pair Game:

It is very simple game all you need to do give two different images and jumble them up. Ask a child to make pair of two identical ones.

Drawing:

Drawing is a fun. It develops many skills and essential for a child to go ahead. To sort things of his own.
Many other activities they can perform as well. They also try running, throwing, catching and various ball games.

4. Adults:

In adults we include ages from 18 to 64. They should do moderate intensity of aerobics, walking, gardening, dancing and my favourite cycling.
Pregnant women and cardiac patient need to seek medical advise before striving to achieve these activities.

Benefits For Adults

  1. Lower risk of heart attack, high blood pressure, diabeties, breast cancer and depression.
  2. Muscular fitness.
  3. Weight maintenance.
  4. Risk of hips and vertebral fracture reduced.
  5. Perfect body mass and composition.

An adult must aim 30 minutes for some physical activity. In case you want to reduce some weight you have to increase exercise more.

5. Senior Citizen

Last but not the least, I'll conclude my topic with discussing the importance of physical activities among our seniors of more then 64 years of age. Such activities prevent them from different disease. By such day to day activities the muscles will grow stronger so they work without being dependent on others.
They need minimum, two hours and thirty minutes, to walk per week. Proper exercise twice a week atleast.

All I want to say that please avoid excess use of technology and give sometime to your physical fitness as well. Which is really important. Its a humble request , instead of using laptops, cellphones, tabs etc unnecessarily give some time to yourself.
