Sleep Apnea - Therapy Start
I had told in my last post that I had documented my sleep. I could barely sleep tonight!

I take the matter very seriously and have applied for an appointment in a sleep lab. I was lucky and got a short-term appointment for the 23.04.2018. With a friendly Pulmologen, I was able to discuss an measure on the basis of my performed polygraphy.
Important! Device manufacturers use different algorithms. A suitable device or type can usually be determined only after a polysomnography. So always talk to a specialist!
Polygraphy – Preliminary examination with determination of the degree of severity (AHI)
Polysomnography – In addition to the parameters of the polygraphy, EEG, ECG, EOG, EMG and the blood pressure course are recorded. It is also possible to determine the RDI, Respiratory Disturbance index (respiratory events within the registered EEG sleep time). In the EEG, sleep fragmentation are manifested, which show the influence of reduced oxygen supply. In addition, the sleep is documented with a video.
This afternoon I visited a provider for respiratory therapy. I told my story and got a competent adviser on it. She explained the differences to a variety of devices and masks that can be used for respiratory therapy.
I opted for a device with automatic positive breathing (APAP). The device registers my breathing and regulates the pressure. What was more important for me, however, was that I can evaluate my breathing retrospectively both on the device and on the PC.
The interface to man is the breathing mask. Here it is important that everything fits well without pressing too hard. Often, most of the problems here are finding an optimal breathing mask.
Tonight I will sleep for the first time with a technical breathing support and test a mouth-nose masks. I wonder if I can normalize the ahi.

I too have sleep apnea, moderate to severe case of it too unforunately and I got my machine back in December along with a full face mask like what you showed in your photos. I've been using it now for the past few nights every night. It doesn't eliminate the sleep apnea entirely but it certainly does reduce it. Through follow up visits with my doctor they slowly change the settings to try to reduce it as much as possible. It was difficult to get used to at first but now that I have adjusted to wearing this thing every night and the fact that I feel better when I wake up in the morning, I really don't think I could go without it now. It does dry my mouth out sometimes but it's not terrible. Knowing that my body is sleeping better now is comforting too because sleep apnea puts straight on all your organs especially your heart and if left untreated can significantly increase your risks of heart disease, heart attacks and strokes. Hang in there, don't feel too discouraged or embarrassed about it. Do what you need to do for the benefit of your health. Good luck!
Hi Jonnyla08, thank you for your experiences and motivating words. In order to save the constant post-controls for fine adjustment, I was recommended a APAP device(APAP = automatic positive Airway pressure). Here the pressure adapts accordingly. My device automatically controls the pressure of 7-16. The AHI index shows me how successful my nocturnal therapy was.
For your dry mouth, I recommend a warm humidifier. But it could also be that you open your mouth during sleep. That's why I took a mouth-nose mask.
Since a nocturnal oxygen drop occurs during sleep apnea, many organs suffer.. As you already say, heart attack and stroke risk is greatly increased.
It's hard to get used to such a Foreign on the face. Nor does it look erotic. But health is important. And since I enjoy life, I stay tuned. Success has been set for me after the first day.
Von einem AHI 40,1 bin ich auf AHI 5 und in der zweiten Nacht auf AHI 3. Das ermutigt.
Hi @jeenger! Good work - found it valuable. Resteemed and hoping we will get this trending. Wish you all the best.
Hello @elena95, thank you. I will continue to push this issue further here. It concerns a large number of people who are struggling with the Sleep apnea syndrome. I look forward to any hint.
