My 98 Year Old Grandfather Showing Off Some of His Garden Harvest.
He lived to a healthy 101 years old, smoked Cigars since he was a teenager and drank coffee every single day. Never watched his diet and never had high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or Alzheimer's. He actually died with his mind as clear as when he was young. My other Grandfather died at 98 and was even worse. He drank a liter of hard liquor every day since his teans until right before he died from an infection from a broken hip fracture. He never ate right, never went to a doctor and lived out in the middle of nowhere in a house with dirt floors and no electricity. How did they both live to such an old age with perfect health with out ever using a Doctor and now my Dad at age 60 already had Prostate Cancer, has had blood pressure since he was 30, and is prediabetic at age 70?

The stress and thoughts of the possibility of the diseases?? That is what I think about when I hear these stories.
I think that has a ton to do with it. The Grandfather in this picture was the most peaceful and wise person you will ever meet. He was married to my Grandma for over 70 years and my Dad and my 2 Uncles all say they never saw them argue. He also used to be really grateful of nature and his surroundings and really compassionate and helpful to every one he met. My other Grandpa lived in the clouds and was always happy, never saw him upset either.
Good questions. You know more about their living situations, diet, job histories air quality, happiness..
What do you think accounts for their longevity?
More important, do you think you inherited their genes?
I am not sure about inheriting their genes because their 3 sons all started getting sick at early ages. One has already passed from liver Cancer at age 72. He was an airplane Mechanic and that seems a common ailment with Mechanics from inhaling all the fumes constantly. My other Uncles has had numerous heart attacks starting in his early 70s and my Dad started having illnesses in his 60's. His wife, my Grandma, all of her brothers had heart disease and died of Heart attacks but late in their lives. One died in his 30's of a heart attack. Happiness for my Dads Dad for sure, he was always calm and happy. My other grandpa on my moms side was always Happy but he lost all his fortune and went through some really harsh times. If I could pin it to one common factor. But they both worked really hard in the fields on their land or for fun gardening until they died.

Wow!
It all depends on the state of the mind, he must have been one happy man!
That he was for sure. Super patient and always happy.
This is so cool and such a sweet memory for you. I believe that it is all about the mindset. My grandfather died at the age of 104 years and he was still strong and could literally take care of himself before his transition to glory.
Let's hope we also live longer!
That is amazing. I am pretty much always happy, so if that is the key I think I will do good. :)
