Entamoeba coli
Enta What??..
Today, we are going to talk about Entamoeba Coli, is a non-pathogenic species of Entamoeba that frequently exists as a commensal parasite in the human gastrointestinal tract. When we say is not pathogenic it means that by itself is not capable of causing a disease, harm or death to another organism, this is most typical of bacteria.
Entamoeba coli
Clinical Importance
Besides Entamoeba Coli is not harmful by itself, it can be a sign of other organisms living into you, and you need to be aware of this because there are other species of Entamoeba that are harmful to humans, being one example the Entamoeba histolytica which is part of the same family, and affect on average 50 million of people worldwide with the well known Amoebiasis.
The Entamoeba Hystolytica is responsible of causing the well known Amoebiasis.
How to Prevent it
Both species get into the human digestive system in the same way, trough the contact with feces, in this case, because in not that probable that you will have contact with this feces directly, the most common mistake that people commit and that cause getting this parasite is:
1- Not Washing Hands Well! Remember always to wash your hands at least for 2 minutes with enough soap and cleaning every part of your hands, also between your fingers and your nails.
2-Wash very well every food before cooking it, and be very careful with vegetables as they might contain rests of dirt and sand that could be mixed with animal feces.
3- If you need to have contact with feces for any reason, please protect your hands well, preferably use gloves to prevent you to have direct contact with it.
