Improve your emotional intelligence

in #health6 years ago

Can we develop and / or improve our emotional intelligence, or is it configured by our genetic crew? Self-control, perseverance, empathy, trust, motivation, enthusiasm. Are these qualities given to us at birth or can they be learned or even perfected during our lives?

We always hear more about this, but do you really know what emotional intelligence is? Emotional intelligence can be defined as the capacity we have as a human being to understand and effectively manage our own emotions as well as those of others. It is a specially human characteristic. Unlike our intelligence quotient (which remains relatively stable throughout our lives), the emotional quotient is flexible. That is, you can develop it or improve it if you use the proper method.

As of today, companies are not only paying attention to good curriculums. It is increasingly valued to have social skills and relationship skills. It becomes vital that we learn to know ourselves, thanks to certain strategies that allow us to regulate our emotions:

Strategies to improve your emotional intelligence

  1. Stop judging things as "good" or "bad" We all tend to judge people based on our own ideologies or moral codes. In this way, we consider those who come out of our schemas to think at best as inappropriate, and at worst as amoral. People are different, and that's where the beauty of the human being is. Empathy is essential. Remember that you can not judge anyone without first putting yourself in his place. Learning to free our thoughts from the dogma of good and evil helps us to have a richer view of the people around us.
  2. Do not confuse different with difficult We associate the different with the difficult (this, normally, is due to the patterns of teaching that we have lived throughout our lives) but that should not be so. The different can be a challenge, can be exciting, but not necessarily complicated. The difficult word includes a negative connotation that can make us afraid to step out of our comfort zone and learn new things. Work your mind to be flexible, and try not to impose a barrier to think freely. Remember that we are what we think.

  3. Identify your strengths and weaknesses We all have strengths and weaknesses. What is interesting is that each force is associated with a weakness, and each weakness with a force. Choose how extreme you want to pay attention. Self-compensation makes us a slight favor. Use your strengths and learn from your weaknesses.

  4. Internalize that all personalities add up In a team work, in a group of friends, in family, all the personalities add up to the group. If you learn to identify the strengths of others, you will have a more complete and richer view of people around you. In the same way, if you identify their weaknesses, you will be able to more easily access their strengths. All adds up.

  5. The most important: get involved thoroughly! Effort and consistency are fundamental to making these changes in your life and incorporating them permanently. One thing is to understand them, another to accept them as our new way of being.

Finally, here's a short animated short that will help you understand what empathy (not sympathy) is for connecting with others, and help you understand the importance of emotional intelligence to truly understand our feelings.

Thank you very much for reading this article, I hope that this article will be useful to you to increase your emotional intelligence.
