"It Just An Illusion Right? Maybe, Maybe Not..."

in #health4 months ago

I mean, what else can you say if you saw a guy walking around with a third appendage?

Just hearing something as such would immediately be dismissed as a wild illusion!

Or is it?

Well, it's a rather apparent fact there are people born with an extra appendage(s).

And that's how one would surely see it, if they saw a guy taking a moment to stretch his legs a bit (as one would expect to do with two legs) and gets out of his car to take a couple of paces back and forth...

Nope, nothing wrong with wanting to feel a bit more comfortable, ESPECIALLY after sitting in a cramped car for a long while.

Except, when he got out of the car, and he starts walking only to reveal to others sitting in their vehicles at a railroad stop; That he's NOT pacing back and forth with anyone else!

Although, at first glance, that initially appeared to be the case but it wasn't!!

NOPE!

He's walking with an extra outer appendage and his other two legs!

And this may sound like some type of elusive prank, but no, if you saw it with your own two eyes you would be left saying...

HOLY ZHIT!!!

No now, I didn't cuss, just altered the term a bit.

Yeah, NO DOUBT most would probably say the correct "cuss" terminology after witnessing such a phenonium!

Polymelia: A Rare Growth Birth Defect

Francesco Lentini:

[credit: Wikipedia]

This wasn't a widely known term back in the 1800s, however, there is solid evidence of a growth defect known as polymelia.

This is when an individual is born with a birth defect that's results in with the person being born extra limbs.

The extra limb(s), This condition can result in extra limbs that are smaller in size and may be deformed.

There was a similar real-life story surrounding two known individuals (although they may be others over time).

The two individuals were, Francesco Lentini who was one the a very significant man who had a third leg, a fourth foot, and two sets of genitals.

And the reason for this was due to the fact that the other appendages had belong to another baby.

Yes correct... You're now surely thinking a partially formed conjoined twin is who the other body parts had belong to; But didn't survive at birth.

That was a documented case back in 1884.

And in case you maybe wondering...

"Ok, how come they didn't just remove it from his body?"

And the answer is they were about to go through with the removal procedure, although, it would result in Lentini becoming a paralyzed.

But, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing for him, he became VERY famous after he accepted his situation by turning it into a positive.

He did that by mentoring and helping other children who also dealt with the same obstacles as he did growing up.

And it didn't stop there for him... But to know the rest you'll have to click the link at the bottom to see how the rest of his story unfolds.

Lakshmi Tatma:

Now, Another similar case surrounds a girl name Lakshmi, except her story is quite a bit more extensive than Lentini's was.

You see in her case, Lakshmi was a girl born with four arms and four legs due to the fact that she and sister were to be Ischiopagus conjoined twins.

This is when the one twin’s head had was not present during the baby's development.

As a result, Lakshmi, was left with the extra appendages.

However, the Zeitgeist in of the times between Lentini's and Lakshmi's were very spacious.

She was born in 2005, which was far ahead of the 1880s; Thus, the level of technology was far in advancement.

Now, things took a severe twist for the girl and her parents who flew her to a facility to have the extra limbs removed.

And that in fact is were the problems begin for the doctors, who (as in the case of Lentini's) had to figure out a way to remove the extra body parts without damaging the girl's spine...

Yeah, now that sounds like a VERY STRESSFUL ENDEAVOR!

Nevertheless, they started out viewing X-rays, to see where would be the best starting point to implicate the removal procedure.

And to add to the plight of issues, was the fact that the girl needed for this surgery to be a success; For if not she wouldn't have long to live.

Luckily for Lakshmi, her doctors were able to remove the extra parts of the body that was slowly killing her from within.

But it wasn't a easy procedure...

  • The doctors needed the assistance of neurosurgeons to help remove the extra body parts without damaging the girl's spine.
  • The doctors had to carefully align her bones after removing the parts during the surgery.
  • The other part attached to her body was parasitic and toxicity was trapped in her body. However, once it was removed the girl's health was no longer in jeopardy.

These are very significant "Surviving Against All Odds" stories.

So thinking back toward the beginning of this article entry, the guys pacing back and forth to see how much more of the train was left to pass along the tracks.

Strikes me as a human being taking on the challenges life has to offer no matter what obstacles lay in his way!
