Does intermittent fasting work?
Yes and no. On this quick post, I'll explain exactly why it can or not work.
First of all, what is intermittent fasting on a few words? It's a diet strategy on which you chose small time windows to eat, fasting the whole day. Easy peasy! Now, does that make you lose weight? It might. Why am I writing in a confusing way? Let's clear everything up right now.
How do you lose weight? You eat less than you spend. That's it, literally. All the magazines, all the DVDs, all the secret exercises, all the pills IT DOES NOT MATTER. If you eat less than you spend you lose weight. It's basic physics. Your body can not take energy out of anywhere if you don't give it enough food, therefore in order to keep you alive, it will use your storages.
Now, that doesn't mean it's that easy. Lots of people have trouble when eating less because your hormones and brain don't want you to lose weight, after all, in the history of humanity we never had that much food available like now, our brain still doesn't know it doesn't need to crazily store fat.
So there are many ways to fool yourself you're eating enough! Does that sound sad? uhhh not my intention We gotta do what we gotta do! Anyway, intermittent fasting is a strategy to do that!
The bigger your meals, the more you'll feel satiated. You might don't eat the whole day, but having 2 huge meals at night makes you feel ok! That's literally it.
All about accelerating your metabolism is not true, the only thing that can change your metabolism is your body composition and temperature. People who say that don't know what's metabolism pretty much.
All about hormones is unproven and most likely not true. Our hormones naturally change during the day, after meals, after a workout, after a walk, it's natural so it's kinda hard to know whether is significative or not, but Imma tell you if it was we would know at first glance.
All about being the ultimate way to lose weight, it depends. Do you like? Can you keep doing it for months? Then it's the ultimate way to lose weight for you if it doesn't then it's not and moving on.
As for me, I really like eating so I don't do it. If I wanna lose weight, I throw in a lot of boring cardio like running and nice cardio like dancing... Then eat a lot of vegetables and salads! That's my secret! Well... not a secret anymore...
