World Alzheimer’s Day, September 21st of each year, is a day on which Alzheimer’s organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia that impairs mental functioning. In India, more than 4 million people have some form of dementia. Worldwide, at least 44 million people are living with dementia, making the disease a global health crisis that must be addressed.

The Forum is hosting "The Purple Run" with NIMHANS, India’s biggest run for Alzheimer’s awareness on the 24th of September 2017 .

The Purple Run, organised by The Forum Mall, seeks to create awareness about the Alzheimer’s Disease, a progressive condition that causes memory loss and cognitive decline. The initiative, which will include a signature campaign, is to be held in four cities — Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mangaluru.

The Purple Run will have a competitive half-marathon (21 km), mini-marathon (10 km) and micro-marathon (5 km), which encourage not just trained athletes but also families and young people.

The tickets are priced at ₹500 per person. The run is free for children below the age of 12 and those over the age of 55.

Proceeds from the marathon will be donated to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) towards research on diagnosis, treatment and a cure for Alzheimer’s.

There are cash prizes for over Rs. 6 lakhs and gift hampers to be won; the highest being Rs.35,000/- for the first place in the 21km run, and Rs.20,000/- for the 10km run. The runners in the 3km and 5km categories will win gift hampers.
