THe Drugs Don't Work

in #health7 years ago

Well OK they do to an extent but my main point here is that modern medicine is overrated. Many people rely too much on the ability of medicine today to cure all our ills. It’s just not as easy as that. There are relatively few classes of drugs such as antibiotics which can be said to be truly life saving or even effective without concomitant potentially adverse side effects. This is because of the enormous complexity of the human physiology, so that a drug having a positive effect on one body system may well have knock-on effects on others which may well be disadvantageous. The doctor or licensing body often has to weigh up the benefits against the possible harm when interfering the body’s function with a drug.

Many drugs prescribed do not cure a disease. They do not get to the root cause and correct it. They often simply help to damp down symptoms or reduce one aspect of a disease.

This opening rant by the way is my first, and my introductory post on Steemit. My name is Rob Esmund and I’m a retired dentist with time on his hands and a strong interest in all matters to do with health, nutrition, and weight loss.

My aim here is to present to you my findings and personal opinions resulting from my own research. There is a lot of perceived dogma in many areas of human health,  plus a good deal of confusion about certain subjects such as dieting and weight loss. Therefore I’m going to start my Steemit career with a few articles on this very subject, perhaps beginning with a short discourse on how our human diet has changed over the centuries and the effects this may have had on our present state of health, which in general in the western world, cannot be said to be ideal. Our modern diet is very different from that of our ancestors and that could well be one of the factors involved in our epidemic of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions such as auto-immune disease. More on this subject later...
