Eating chillies helps blood sugar control.

A study in the Australian University of Tasmania indicated that chillies can help diabetics to control their post meal blood sugar spikes. It was only a small study. However the results were promising.

36 People were recruited in the study. They were given a four week diet of regular food. Afterwards they ate a four weeks chilli containing diet.

Blood samples were taken to measure the insulin levels and serum glucose. After comparison the blood that came from the chilli diet showed that blood glucose levels was not as high as the bland diet. This effect is larger if chillies are eaten regularly.

The research indicated that chillies act on the liver which affects insulin clearance and/or production.

Chilli peppers are a rich source of anti-oxidants. It inhibits the creation of pancreatic cancer cells.

Diabetics who have a problem of adding chillies to their daily diet can experiment with curry pastes that is on the market that contains chilli. It does not burn the hell out of you but tastes hot. Many people prefer curries as their way of chilli intake as opposed to raw consumption of chillies. Chilli sauces are also sources of ready to eat prepared chilli.

This trial in Tasmania proved that regular intake of chillies can improve insulin control by 60%.

So if you wonder why you have diabetes, perhaps it is because your body is craving for the spices and food stuffs that inhibit blood sugar.

Chillies are a pleasant additional help in controlling post meal blood sugar spikes.
