The Wholistic Nature of Health – Article Series
by Ryan Muetzel

Nature is perfect. You are therefore perfect by nature since you come from nature. Simply align yourself with nature to allow the inherent perfection within it to radiate out from yourself like the sun. Ideas such as this, often heard from a great friend and teacher of mine, seem almost too simple to comprehend at first. Making the simple too complicated is one of the things everyone must overcome in order to bring their life back into order and balance. One must simple realize that the simple has never been defeated. You cannot fight nature; you can only align yourself with it and reap the mind, body and spiritual rewards that come with this realization.

Yoga allows yourself to re-align with nature by allowing your tendons, ligaments and muscles to return to their natural perfect lengths, bringing your entire body into perfect phi ratio, which is the same sacred geometrical ratio that exists in all of nature. Strength training aligns your body with the patience and slow and steady change of nature as a result of a slow progression of increased weight and compression over a lifetime, in very much the same way a diamond is formed. Eating a healthy diet as close to nature as possible allows you to directly connect and align with nature through the realization that you are one with nature and are living a truly sustainable lifestyle. Anyone who has spent a considerable amount of time partaking in any of these practices can attest to the heath benefits and life changes that have occurred as a result of a simple re-alignment with nature.

After having worked out with and trained many of the top professional athletes in the world over the past ten years, I can honestly say that those who tend to be more aligned with nature often do the best over the long term. Once in a while, hints at what some of the top professional athletes are really doing in their training is leaked out into the public media, though they are not likely to be included in Sport Center’s Top 10 Plays of the Day anytime soon. Some of these ideas include: Tom Brady owning a Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic and eating a mostly raw, plant-based diet in the summer; and athletes such as Ray Lewis, Victor Cruz, Vernon Davis, the New Zealand All Blacks Rugby Team, Evan Longoria, Mike Krzyzewski, Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Garnett, Kevin Love and even LeBron James doing Yoga.

I have done many lectures around Austin where I often discuss many of the aforementioned ideas concerning what some of the top professional athletes are really doing, and my favorite title for the first lecture I do at a new venue is The Nature of Health. The reason I continue to choose this title is because I try to make it as simple as possible for anyone looking to make a change in his or her life towards better health. To put it simply, the closer to nature the foods and drinks you consume are, the better your health will be. The further away from nature your diet consists of, the more pain and suffering you will be in as a result of distancing yourself from the perfection of nature. A healthy diet based in food coming directly from nature is truly the best way to align yourself with nature because you are following the principle of Ahimsa, causing no harm to self or others.
I have hosted a radio show on TXLR 89.1 in Austin, TX, along with David Burke, Dr. Alyssa Wampole and Andrew “LuckyChewy” Lichtenberger entitled Nourishment for the Spiritual Warrior, which took place live every Saturday from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and where I have discussed many of the same topics I talk about here. However, if you want a crash course on the best way to align yourself with the wholistic nature of health, the first thing I would do is to find a copy of Dr. Alyssa Wampole and David Burke’s best-selling book Nourishment for the Spiritual Warrior. It is available for sale here in Austin, TX at the Pure Bikram Yoga Studios, Brave New Books, Free Your Fitness 24 and various other local businesses. If you do not live near Austin, you can find the book online at ApolloGenesis.com, along with many of the superfoods and supplements I personally take and recommend to my clients. I consider this book to be one of the best books ever written in the realm of health and fitness and is a must read for anyone wishing to take their life and health to the next level. This books also does a great job of showing how all the parts of health and fitness such as juicing, cleansing, raw, vegan and vegetarian foods, meditation, tai chi, phi squeezing and sexual expression all fit together to form the wholistic nature of health.

When you can take a step back and see the big picture, it is easy to see that the top people in every industry are all doing the same thing – aligning with nature instead of fighting against.it. Even the game of Poker, that at first glance would seem to be quite far away from nature and health, is starting to see many of the top players living a healthy lifestyle and participating in yoga and meditation to tap into their intuition and be able to relax and stay focused throughout a long tournament, all of which is accomplished through a closer alignment with nature. In fact, yogi and meditation practitioner Andrew “Lucky Chewy” Lichtenberger won $2.1 million in the 2014 WPT Five Diamond & Alpha 8 No-Limit Hold’em Tournament and then went on to win the Aria High Roller Tournament twice in 2015. In 2016 he won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in the $3K No-Limit Hold’em and cashed in 499th place out of 6,737 in the main event. This is another perfect example of where aligning yourself with nature can result in quite considerable abundance.

Everywhere you look, people are becoming better at aligning themselves with nature and are achieving success in a variety of areas of life as a result. Over the next few months, I am going to be writing more specific articles on a variety of topics and how each of these topics relates to the wholistic nature of health.
