A menstrual cup - why every woman should start using it!
After my post yesterday called 'The truth about tampons and pads! ( Explain simply )', it is now time to look at the best alternative!
And that is......
The menstrual cup
If you are unfamiliar with a menstrual cup, it is a soft silicone cup that you insert vaginally and it sits over the cervix and collects your menstrual flow.
What are the advantages?
There are SO many advantages to using a menstrual cup!
It is reusable
It is possible to keep the cup in for 12 hours. This means that you only have to take it out once or twice a day. This can, of course, be more if your flow is a lot heavier. This is because the cup holds 5 times more liquid than tampons do! If you look after your cup properly, you can use it for 10 years!!!!It is WAY cheaper than pads and tampons
Can we just all agree that pads and tampons are way too expensive for something that is a required item for a woman's life? The cost of a menstrual lies around the $20-30 USD. This is possibly a once in a ten year time purchase ( unless you have a child, which means you have to get the post-childbirth option ) which is WAY less than the monthly expenses of buying conventional pads and tampons. It is safe
By using a menstrual cup, you are not leaking any nasty chemicals into your system. You are not at risk for diseases. You are not at risk for Toxic Shock Syndrome ( which you do get from tampons ).It is good for your vulva
It allows your beautiful lady to breathe, making her less prone to infections. It doesn't interfere with the vagina's natural delicate ecosystemYou don't feel it!
When it is in, you don't feel it at all! Which I know is crazy but I promise, it's the truth! No leakage
When inserted properly, the cup forms a suction around your cervix, meaning no blood can get past the cup.You don't see it on the outside
The cup fits inside and there is nothing protruding out of the vagina when it is. So you can go swimming in a public place, without having to worry about if your tampon string is being seen, because voila, you don't have a tampon string!
Right, convinced yet?
Bought a menstrual cup for yourself or for your girlfriend already?
There are a few things that I do want to mention!
It takes a while to figure out.
Go online and find ways to put the cup in properly for you. There are quite a few ways to insert it.If it feels uncomfortable or you can feel it, it is not in properly!
You should not be able to feel it at all. This is a big one to remember. If you are scared of leaking because you are still learning to insert it in properly, use organic panty liners.
In the beginning, you might leak a little when learning to use it. Use an organic panty liner to make sure you don't stain your underwear.
Honestly, I have not looked back since I started using my beloved menstrual cup.
