Tongue Diagnosis
Tongue Diagnosis (3): Tongue Shape
Based on the shape change, the tongue can be divided into several types, among others:
(1) Rough and Soft Tongue
A rough tongue, generally a sign of shi syndrome (excess) and heat-induced heat syndrome and consuming body fluids, while slippery tongue is generally a sign of the syndrome xu (deficient) and cold syndrome. Smooth tongue like a mirror is a sign yin from the stomach is dry or out of qi so it does not have the power to form the membranes of the tongue.
(2) Tongue Bloating / Fat
The tongue is fat or larger than normal due to a pool of water or humid pathogens and phlegma in the body. It is usually caused by qi-xu or a deficiency that fails to warm and transform the fluid.
White tongue, pallor, fat and slippery are generally a sign of the spleen-and-kidney deficiency that causes the jin-ye (fluid) to be unbalanced and accumulate into fluid pathogens. Red and fat tongue with a shiny yellow tongue membrane is generally a sign of the presence of hot-humid pathogens inside the spleen and stomach.
(3) Thin and Thin Tongue
The thin and thin tongue is generally due to the lack of supply of qi, xue or jin-ye. Therefore, if it appears pale white, thin and thin, it is necessary to consider the lack of qi and xue deficiency. If the thin and thin tongue is dark red / dry and dry, it is generally a sign of yin-xu syndrome and a smoldering fire.
(4) Tongue Tongue / Tongue Thorn
Spots on the tongue is a prominent or enlarged papillae and is usually called a 'thorn', either red or black is a sign of an overwhelmingly hot pathogen attack. Usually the hot pathogen is already at the stage of xue stage. The more 'thorns' are visible, the heavier the heat.

(5) Tongue Spread / Splitting
The tongue shows the cleavage: (a) when the disease is caused by an outer pathogen, it is a sign of a hot pathogen already consuming jin-ye, (b) but the disease arises from the inside and is red, it is a sign of yin-xu syndrome and fiery flame . (c) A pale white tongue indicates inadequate qi and xue markings, (d) however, it should also be noted that in healthy people it can sometimes reveal tongues that are split apart.
(6) Tongue Teardrops
Former tooth on the edge of the tongue is generally a sign of a weak spleen and there are damp pathogens in the body. If the tongue is pale white and wet then it indicates a sign of a cold humid pathogen. The tongue that shows the tooth marks and pink is generally a sign of the spleen and weak qi.
The spleen controls transport and transformation. Qi or spleen retardation results in transport dysfunction and transformation, as well as internal retention of moisture in the tongue, so that the tongue appears to be bloated with a tooth injury. However, there are some healthy people whose tongue is also crushed but not accompanied by the swelling of the tongue, such circumstances have no diagnostic value.
(7) Tongue Tongue *
Tongue canker sores are usually caused by a fire pathogen in the heart meridian (HT). However, canker sores often recur usually disebabka yin-kidney is not enough so that the fire is xu smoldering upward.
