Best weight loss diet finally revealed by scientists - is it low-carb or low-fat?
WEIGHT LOSS can be tricky, and many dieters try a number of different diet plans to get the results they want. But which diet plan is the best? Scientists research the issue, with some surprising results. Is a low-carb diet like the keto diet or Dukan better?
What is the best weight loss diet plan is a question that many dieters have asked over the years.
There are a myriad of diet plans on the market, from low carb options such as Atkins and the Dukan diet, to vegan diets, low fat diets, fasting and many others.
However, scientists have revealed something surprisings after analysing research done into diets.
Scientists from The Endocrine Society claims research shows there is little different between each diet long term.
The statement issued today found that type of diet, whether low-card or low fat etc can be just as effective.
The diet itself makes little different to how much weight a person will lose.
What does make a difference is how well dieters stick to their plan, as well their genetics.
George A. Bray, M.D., of Louisiana State University's Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, La, part of the team behind the statement, said: "There often is a mismatch between the patient's cosmetic goals and what can realistically be achieved with diet and exercise.
“While a modest five per cent to 10 percent weight loss can yield significant health benefits, that may not provide the cosmetic changes patients seek."
He added: "Currently, we have limited genetic and other information to predict which intervention will work for a given individual. This demonstrates just how complex the problem of severe obesity is."
Recent studies found that a low-carb diet, although loved by Hollywood celebs, may not be as effective as people think.
The new study involving more than 600 overweight adults found both low carb and 'low fat' diets were just as good when it came to losing weight.
After 12 months, participants on both the low carb and low fat diets had each lost an average of 13lbs (5.9 kilos).
