RE: Please do NOT think my lack of replies stem from a lack of interest; I am actually dying from a lack of RC, and I am unable to reply!

The more complex the system, the more detailed the need for testing. A system this complex needs to be run on an isolated network of hundred of machines, with a planned challenge / testing list. Only when the alpha test in this isolated network is stable for a given time, can the system be analyzed for I/O results and the system irregularities corrected before a limited Beta release.

One more iteration of analysis and repair from Beta, and you will have something usable. But that is a lot more work to do to launch...but it works!

This launch came too close to a silent blog.

There seems to be lower witnesses calling for that very thing, starting with raggaemuffin who pretty much spelled it out and others jumping onboard with it. I still don't think I've seen it confirmed anywhere that's what they intend to do, though.

But I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying. I find it disappointing, beyond what expense and time involvement there might be, that there isn't a full blown testnet clone of the mainnet running already. When they first announced there would be a testnet, it met with plenty of fanfare. Then, we come to find out that it was a very limited testnet to save time, and then most of the Top 20 witnesses did nothing with it until near the end of the test period, and then only a few did it. So, what good is a testnet if it's limited and doesn't hardly get used?

I think there are some that are starting to run backup servers along with their primary server and seed nodes, etc. Each time they add some spot of hardware, it drives their costs up, which should be okay for the Top 20, but not so cost effective for anyone else.

And why Steemit doesn't have it's own testing going on, I'm not sure. They seem to have all their devs committed to creating the code and want to leave it to the witnesses to debug and or test it.

Code can Not be written without a test challenge protocol being written at the same time, OR THINGS WILL BE FORGOTTEN OR MISSED! I pray they have learned from this launch, and won't repeat this type of launch again!

I was building up machines here, to add to steem, but when I saw this, I gave two to Church, and one to the homeless meal charity. I plan on selling the other three, and breaking even. I have cancelled the higher speed internet connection too.

No testing, no design, non professional.
