PSA: On Halloween, please remember your pets aren't props or accessories
This Halloween, please remember that your pets have feelings too. No matter how social they are or how excited they are initially to participate in whatever you're doing, it's not fair to them to subject them to the discomforts of a costume and of being paraded around to meet crowds of strangers. There may be strange noises and sights that make them uncomfortable. They may tire of the activity quickly. They may feel scared, intimidated, overwhelmed, or even get angry and start a brawl with another animal. Children may intentionally try to frighten them, innocently or otherwise.
Please don't let your animal companion end up looking like this sad butterfly. Leave her at home in her cosy bed instead.
@goose - I agree with you on this - I dislike occasions like this - it's too commercialized and so even animals get reeled in it and it's sad to watch - dogs, cats even rodents get dressed up all for the lol of it while those animals are possibly all getting stressed out.
Although there's a creative part on it - I just can't appreciate it.
Yes! I hate to see animals dressed up.. why on earth do people think it's okay? Do they think the animals enjoy it???
I think it's often innocent but self-absorbed -- people want to use their companion animals as a way of expressing themselves. And dogs are often so long-suffering, they'll act happy at the slightest attention, that people probably actually don't stop to think that the animals may not enjoy it.
I think you're probably right :-)
You were probably asking a rhetorical question. I have a habit of answering them ;)
:-)
