National Walk Out

So you may have heard that a few days ago there was this huge national student walk out and people were making claims like "oh kids are just walking out to miss school" or "they aren't even old enough to buy guns so why should they have a say in our laws" And I most of that I could just ignore as basic bullshit and internet trolls doing their thing but what really got to me was the image of "Walk Up Not Out"

Have you seen it? If not here it is:

Now I am 100% against bullying. I do believe it is a really issue. But I'm going state some items and try not to get to into it so I don't lose you.

1. Not all shooters kill people b/c they were bullied.
2. Let's be real, you don't your kid hanging out with the "troubled" kid.
3. Why are you teaching kids to be friends with people out of fear that person may kill them?
4. Why are teachers needing to be thanked here -- they are walking out too. They are dying too.
5. The same people who don't believe in universal healthcare, or systematic oppression and racism, think "safe places" is a snowflake issue and also the ones who think kids should "man up" or "get over it" and don't think bullying is real are the same ones passing this image around!!

HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY FREAKING SENSE?!

What an insane way to victim blame. And how many steps away is this from:

1. Say yes if he asks you out b/c he may rape you.
2. If he starts to touch you - let him do it b/c he may rape you
3. If he says he likes you - say you like him too b/c he may fucking rape you!
4. Don't say no b/c he may rape you.

I may have jumped the shark there but take a step back and look at the underlying messages of that image up there. How far off am I really?

Be nice to people - yes, b/c it's the RIGHT FUCKING THING TO DO!! Not b/c you fear for your life.
Common sense gun laws or more strict gun laws -- YES BECAUSE PROTECTING INNOCENT LIVES IS IMPORTANT.

Cars kill people -- yes that is why you have to have it registered, insured and have a license to drive. Plus police around making sure you don't drive like an asshole.
People text and drive - yes that is why they invented blue tooth and talk to text and again have police around to watch for this.

Throw something else my way. There are problems in the world - -many of them. But that doesn't make this issue any less significant or worthy of being corrected and addressed.
