RE: What Stephen Colbert can teach us about grief and life..
"Yes.... It's a gift to exist, and with existence comes suffering. There's no escaping that."
Wow, well said.
Suffering is part of the very fabric of life, most of the time we ignore and bottle up the suffering which makes things worse.
Suffering means that some form of affliction has happened to a loved one or thing. If we don't love anything we can't be exposed to suffering but a life without love isn't worth living.
"Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all"
Yeah, that quote blew me away too. I think we have been bred to avoid pain and suffering as well as all other unpleasant circumstances. But often times, bad situations happen that are unavoidable. We need to come to realize them, as Colbert did, as part of what defines and shapes us. You cannot pick and choose what happens to you, only how you react. You cannot go back and change the past, only the future.
And we can't appreciate joy, without the presence of sorrow.
