1453: Constantinople falls to the Ottomans. The era of Turkish Rule begins.
1453: The last Byzantine Emperor, Constantine XI Palaiologos dies defending the City. He and the defenders chant the “To Thee, the Champion Leader” hymn fighting until their dying breaths.
