Welcome back dear students, it's good to have you all back here again this week. It's has been weeks of continuous impactful learning and am sure you all have been getting value from the lessons. All I want from you is to continue giving your best and learn all there is to learn within this short period of time.

Today we would be considering another beautiful topic on MockUps. It's a very interesting topic and am sure you would definitely enjoy it. The cover image is already a proof of what I intend teaching you today, so if you love what you see already, then you are already on your way to replicating it and even more beautiful stuffs.

What are Mockups

A mockup is a well detailed visual representation of what your product design would look like in real life. Sometimes, mere design of product fliers aren't just enough to give us a feel of what it would look like in a real life scenario, hence the need for mockups.

It can be a model or image or captions of a proposed design or product. As at this time the product is not ready, it's still an idea but mock up is used to bring the idea to reality even when not tangible yet but we can have a visual picture of what it would be when it eventually becomes a real tangible product.

Mockups are designed in such a way that it helps reveal the purpose and intent of a design, it's a static, high-fidelity render of your product design on labels , business cards, shirts , cups, pen, etc. Mock up makes it look so real and lively with all the relevant elements such as colour text and images in place

You can see me mentioning products over and again, that's because many of us are into production and services, hence the reason mock up is very important. It can help you pitch your product and service excellently before stakeholders and investors because they can literally catch a very beautiful glimpse of what you're trying to propose visually

Types Of Mockups

Print Mockups:

Prints mockups are used to visualize how your print materials would look like in a real world scenario. This means your banner, flyers, postcard can be visualized even before printed. Print mockup also does a good job in revealing if your design font is legible enough for real printing.

1001042002.jpg

It also saves you a lot of stress because you are already having a photorealistic rendering of your print materials which would reveal both the flaws and perfection and encourage editing before the final printing of the work. Print mockups are suitable for lead magnets for online digital marketers, for Ebook covers and other printable materials.

Device Mockup: Here is another type of mockup. The way it operates is simple. It's programmed in such a way that your electronic device such as your mobile phone, computers and wristwatch can capture on their screen your product or designs. This is useful for most tech and electronic companies. For example an app developer can use this type of mockup to demonstrate what their app looks like on a mobile phone and the same applies to a PC. A very good example is what I have below.

Branding Mockups: A branding mockup is used basically for the purpose of awareness, some of us even use branded customized items such as caps, shirts, pens, cups and the like. Some of these items contain just the logo of the brand or some very popular slogan or tagline of a brand.

That cap, cup, pen existed first as mockups before it was approved to be printed and then it came out the same way it was visualized. The main purpose is for awareness and campaign, most startups that aren't popular use branded mockups like this to have the name of their brand go viral via common gift items.

There are other types of mockup, but I will like to limit it to these three so that you can also make some research on your own and broaden your knowledge as well. This would definitely be captured in your homework task.

Importance of Mockup

Visualization of end result: Mockup help to show what a product would look like at the very end by giving you a photorealistic view of the same thing you have in your mind. It is not tangible yet but can be tangible the moment a decision is made to have it printed or made.

Create a unified team: Since mockup serves a model for what is to be done or achieved, it can guide a team or group of people in achieving uniformity. Mockups are so cool that it can be shared to anyone and anywhere in the world and when printed, it still gives the same result regardless of location or even device.

It attracts investors: Mockups help your investors or whoever you're pitching your product to, to have a glimpse of what your end product looks like even without having that same product tangibly. It gives them a real life view of what your product looks like and you know mockup has this very convincing appearance that compels them to take action in your favour.

There are several other importance of mockups but then I will also limit it to these three so that I can engage you further in this aspect. It would also be included in your task...

Practical steps in Making your Mockup Design using Canva

Step 1: Launch your Canva app, Go to your Apps and search for Mockups. Click on the mockup app as seen below to explore.

Alternatively, if you've once opened the app like I have severally, then using the mockup shortcut on the menu bar just like I have would be cool instead of going to search all over again. Afterwards I had to go for my choice mockup for the purpose of this lesson. As you can see I chose Mug for my illustration.

Step 2: I then selected gallery to go and pick the design (steemit logo) I needed to work on. Kindly note that I removed the default background of the steemit logo I downloaded online using remove.bg site to make it transparent. I selected afterwards and brought it to the page. I resized it exactly where the blank picture on the cup is and it automatically fit into the cup.

Step 1: I selected my mock up shortcut icon again instead of the search option and then selected a t.shirt mock up to promote my brand just as seen in the screenshot below.

Step 2: I went to the gallery option on the menu bar to locate my specimen logo brand. I picked a suitable one and then added it to the page where my t.shrit mock up already existed and then resized it by minimizing it into the blank image icon on the shirt and then it automatically fit into the shirt.

Mock up 1

I decided to use the steemit logo again and this time am putting it on another essential material for brand awareness, I decide to use a tote bag which can be carried everywhere with the name of the brand clearly written on it. I summarized the process below.

Mock up 2

I decided to make a phone mock up using my personal steemit account interface. I did this by choosing my desired mobile phone mock up first and then proceeded to take a screenshot of my steemit account interface and then dragged it into the mock up as usual, the result is as seen below. The process was summarized.
