The Gold of Nations United (an excerpt)

"My Sovereign, you must accept this gift. The people will be offended if you do not accept it. Gold represents the great admiration they have for you. I know you are proud of your humility, but you cannot reject it simply because it is gold." The sweat on the experienced man's face was evident. His brown short hair sticking to his forehead and his breaths short and rapid. "They have gone through great lengths and shown great participation in crafting it for you. Please Liunami, if you don't accept this gift you risk ruining the great peace that you have created. No one has ever created this type of peace and happiness for their own country, let alone the entire world. Your parents command that you take the gift." He wipes his brown and takes a seat in the brown leather chair beside the book case exasperated. It is obvious that he has made himself tired trying to convince her. The desperation shows in his eyes something like the look of a man bound to the bottle and begging for a drink. It is as if his life depends on it.

She looks back with cool confidence. Her golden brown eyes that match her golden brown hair are steady and unblinking. People theorized that only someone with golden eyes and matching golden hair of such a rare color must have a golden heart to match. The young and simple face staring back at him is pretty but not flashy. "Quanii, you have proven to be a wise and loyal advisor, but must I remind you that following my parents commands has not won me the hearts of this world. In fact, if I had followed their commands the world would not be united as it is now. No. We would still be wasting our time thinking of new ways to conquer one another, the East and the West. You also know that I have not won peace on this earth and unified all civilizations by being opulent like my parents. My spirit is humble. My spirit is loyal without gifts. They must think that I will protect them without their offers of gold and jewelry as I have before."

The man nods with respect. He knows what sacrifices she has made and that it is selfish of him to ask anymore from her, but he knows her gift is unlike any other. She was, undoubtedly, magic. She was like a siren that used her power for good. To look at her was to be charmed and they say she is made of gold at her core. Who else could heal the soul of any human just by looking in their eyes? She could see the generational hurt and torment in someone's eyes and heal it until there was only love. He knew he must persist. She was the only one that could save them all. "Yes, but this gold is different than any other gold. The necklace they have made for you is the most rare, the most powerful piece of jewelry ever created. Nothing like it has ever existed and nothing like it will ever exist again. This gold is made from all of the kingdoms of all of the world. Every last region has given something priceless to be melted down and mixed together to form this necklace. Many believe it will give you powers far beyond what you currently posses. It contains gold from Cleopatra's ring, gold from the holy grail, a gold Dinar, and so many others. You must grasp the weight of this. I beg you. You must seize this moment." He stands up exasperated, as if he can no longer bare to sit still, and paces the room.

She looks at him gravely. "Yes, but if I seize it will I be strong enough to carry it's weight or will it suffocate me like the weight of a thousands elephants? Will I continue to breath while the weight of the world lays on my chest?" She half screams at him.

"I understand." He says as his gaze drops to the floor with his last bit of hope. "I have believed in vain, I suppose, that you would be the first leader of the entire world. That you were the chosen one to lead us into the golden era of human kind and that you alone would lead the earth to achieve things that no one has ever even dreamed before. But I have taken too much of your time and I should be going now." He turns to leave.

"Wait!" She yells. "Wait. I will do it. I will accept their gift and I will prove to them that I deserve it. I will create a world that has never been seen before. I will do things that no one thought possible. These are my people. I love them and they love me. I will show them. I will love them better than they ever thought I could. The world will look like it never has before, but how it should have this whole time. Arrange the ceremony Quanii. When it pleases them, of course." She stands from her large chair and looks in the mirror. She stares determined at herself and then looks to her advisor. "What are you waiting for?" She asks.

With a look of utter amazement and admiration on his face he says, "I am only pausing to take in the greatest moment in all of history and to thank the universe for me being part of it. You won't be sorry. You will be the greatest leader the world has ever known."

"Let us hope." She whispers to herself. And with that, he is gone into the night to tell of the good news. There will be very little sleep tonight on earth. Liunami stares at her ceiling and all she can think about is gold.....

Thank you for your participation in the competition.

It was a lot of fun, thank you!

and all she can think about is gold....

Probably the most important line in the whole text. Doing the right thing for the right reasons. Thoughts remain free...
