In Hawaii Honu, Hawaiian green sea turtles, bask on the beaches and rocky outcropped regularly. Green turtles are only known to bask on beaches in Hawaii, Australia, and Galapagos Islands. When adults you can easily distinguish males from females by there thick long tails and the pronounced claw on all four flippers used to hold females during in water mating. 90% of all Honu nest in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, about 600 miles from Oahu. Climate change poses a significant threat to Honu, as ocean temperatures rise, so do sea levels and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands will lose large amounts of crucial nesting areas.
