Gods, goddesses, and the mana wheel

Card activation progress for Gods Unchained is at 98% and the marketplace is just about to launch. Given the high anticipation, I’d expect there to be a lot more buzz surrounding the game from old and new players.

As a long-time Magic: The Gathering player, I wanted to compare the MTG mana wheel and the gods & goddesses in Gods Unchained at a high level. With how influential MTG is, it’s no surprise that there are many parallels between the 5 original colors and the characters in Gods Unchained. So, without further ado…

Thaeriel, God of Light - White

w.pngLife gain. Low-cost creatures. Low attack, high toughness creatures. Creature buffing. White planeswalkers would be right at home here. Thaeriel is all about low-cost creatures, life gain, toughness buffing, damage healing. MTG players would probably be familiar with the popular "white weenie" deck type. The "chosen one" god power is one of the more unique in the game. Light decks can be built many ways, but typically are mid-range to late game speed.

Malissus, Goddess of Death - Black

b.pngDirect damage to both gods. Destroy own creatures. Buff power lower toughness. Creature resurrection. Hard removal. If you love summoning powerful creatures while sacrificing your own life, choose Malissus. Death is commonly used with decks that try to end the game as quickly as possible but can be built for slower control-focused decks as well.

Auros, God of War - Red

r.pngBlitz. High power, low toughness creatures. Twin strike. Weapons. Damage own creatures. If you're all-too-familiar with tapping mountains for mana, Auros is your guy. You’ll find creatures that can attack the turn they’re played and equipment cards in War. Also, your creatures get stronger as they get damaged. War typically lends itself well for faster-paced decks or mid-range.

Aeona, Goddess of Nature - Green

g.pngCreature focused. Creature buffing. Randomized creature damage. Green planeswalkers know the drill- bigger is better. High power & toughness creatures, great removal, and RNG. Nature often shines mid to late game once it's able to play its more powerful creatures.

Elyrian, God of Magic - Red/Blue

ur.pngSpell focused. Damage to creatures. Elyrian is both red and blue on the mana wheel. On one hand, the god of magic rewards players for playing spells (blue). However, the spells are mostly direct damage (red). Magic seems to favor a slower, more control based game.

Ludia, Goddess of Deception - Blue

u.pngSleep. Hidden. Combos. Copy opponent’s cards. If you’re wondering where all of the trickery and deception went from Blue, here it is. Many of the Deception cards require multiple cards to get the most value. Ludia offers one of the more unconventional deck types and can be played a variety of ways, but typically favors mid to late game.

Until next time, folks!

Sort:

Been trying to build a good deception deck because it seems to be the one I lose to most. :/
