Global Warming. Why?

in #globalwarming3 years ago

The extraordinary rising temperature due to global warming is now making people edgy. Just before midday everyday, the sun is already up, hot and scorching, beating down savagely without mercy on both man and beast and making the daily temperature of some places to climb to an agonizing 40°C and above (imagine that!).

This situation is driving many people crazy, leaving people sweating profusely whether one is in the sun or away from it, compounded by the very unstable and unreliable power supply we have to deal with here in Nigeria.

At night time things don't get better as many without power supply, generating set or air conditioners can hardly sleep, some are forced to stay outdoors till really late into the night just to cool off- exposing themselves to certain dangers. Everyone is wondering what the heck is going on. It has never been really this bad.

Well, the reason for this crazy heat level is simple- Global Warming.

There is variation in the weather/climate of every country of the world. The issue is that human activities are endangering the very existence of humans and animals both In urban and rural areas but especially in the urban areas.

First, we have the issue of rising population. If you measure the inter-distance between homes, you will notice that it is rapidly decreasing. The implication of this is that it's either humans are activating chemicals that are injurious or making use of chemicals that are injurious and harmful, causing them to be released into the atmosphere.

This is why greenhouse gases, methane, carbon dioxide, even what used to be normal water vapour are on the rise and endangering human activities.

Further activities such as industrial activity, home/building construction etc, have all contributed to deforestation. Nobody is even encouraging green environment. We are having a very high accumulation of carbon dioxide gas & and methane gas in the atmosphere. All these plus other small gases are not allowing the entry of solar radiation. Upon hitting the Earth surface, it is prevented from escaping into space.

The heat so released by the sun's rays is expected to escape into the atmosphere. But all these gases go to seal up the upper level of the troposphere above, preventing the exit of this "heat" into the atmosphere. The heat now returns to the Earth causing this almost unbearable heat wave which has proved to be very harmful to human survival.

And the bad news is the heat wave which is likely to increase, the more thermal radiation isn't allowed to escape into space.

It kind of seems like we are trapped here, doesn't it? What is the way forward? What do we do now? How do we save ourselves and protect our existence?

If you ask me, I'd say that tree planting is the best way out. Trees and leaves not only provide shade from the scorching sun, they also take up carbon dioxide and release oxygen which is very essential to human survival.

Taking proper care of our environment Is another way to tackle this crisis. Cleanliness they say is next to godliness.

Nobody knows and takes care of a place better than the inhabitants of that place.
