Ghana, a country always proclaimed as the gateway to West Africa has more under her sleeves than what has been said about her.
The country has offered a lot to the world and can boast of many things the world depend on her for although it is just a small country with just 27 million people.

Even as a Ghanaian, we doubt you know the many things Ghana has brought to the world.

Here are 14 things you probably don’t know Ghana brought to the World and has always probably given the credit to a different country.

1. Highlife music

Highlife music is one of Ghana’s ingenuity which has roamed the world and has been accepted by many but a lot of people from around the world don’t even know it is from Ghana. The music was invented in the 40’s by Ghanaians who decided to combine Ghana’s traditional type of music with the Jazz music and this gave a unique music style which conquered the world.

2. Azonto.

We know the Nigerians tried taking ownership of this unique dance from Ghana but we are sure now the world knows who the true owners of the dance are. Communicating with a dance has always been one of our greatest accolades and so it is not surprising we were able to come up with the Azonto dance, that tells the world we have more down our sleeves.

3. Jollof.

Jollof, one of the best dishes from Ghana which has been battled many times by Nigerians to be their own is actually something Ghanaians brought to the world. Nigerians had the opportunity to know this food because of an influx of Ghanaians in Nigeria back in the 80’s which brought about “Ghana must go”. So if you’re out there and thought Jollof is from Nigeria, then you might want to change your assertion.

4. Kente.
You see this unique colourful cloth in your country and probably don’t know where it is coming from. Well! your woes end today, it is from Ghana and there is an interesting story behind it but to cut a long story short, the person who invented it actually took inspiration from how a spider weaves its cobweb and he was a hunter. That should tell you every Ghanaian you meet on the street is creative and innovative.

5. Ahenema sandals.

The Ahenema sandals have been with Ghanaians for thousands of years and are one of the most durable sandals you can ever find in the world. In fact, there are some that have lasted more than 400 years and are still in existence, most worn by Chiefs in the country. We know there is a company out there in the West trying to steal this ingenuity from Ghana but if you’re reading this, we wish to let you know, this is where you find the original.
