Geopolitical and Conflicts
Gaza War:
The conflict in Gaza continues to be a major international concern, with reports of the last functioning hospital in North Gaza being evacuated and the UN warning that the entire population faces starvation. There are ongoing diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire, with the US proposing a 60-day deal that Israel has reportedly accepted, while Hamas is still reviewing it. French President Macron has also threatened sanctions on Israelis over the aid crisis in Gaza.
Russia-Ukraine War:
The conflict persists, with Ukraine accusing Russia of undermining upcoming peace talks. Russia has proposed a second round of ceasefire talks in Turkey for June 2nd, but Ukraine is demanding to see Russia's proposals first. There are also reports of new, terrifying weapons, like swarms of fiber optic drones, being used by Russia.
China-US Tensions:
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has reassured Indo-Pacific allies that the US will stand by them against the "imminent" threat of China, stating that China's army is actively training for an invasion of Taiwan. This comes amid ongoing trade tensions, with the US revoking some Chinese student visas.
