I believe you're fossilised plant is a tree root. I unfortunately cannot narrow it down any further than that :P
That's interesting, I hadn't imagined a root. There's a uniformity to the dimples, a pattern that made me think that leaf stalks were attached there at one time, but I have seen roots with patterns in their growth as well.
