Create a new project in UTM Geo Map and Save it (Select it as active project)

It is very simple and easy to create a new project in the UTM Geo Map application and to set it as an active project. So let us start creating a new project step by step and set it as an active project:

First of all we need to have UTM Geo Map application in our mobile so that we can use it to create project. As I joined previous learning lecture as well so I already have application in my mobile. Further you haven't downloaded this amazing application you can download it here for the completion of this task.

So let us move towards the creation of the project. I have already discussed this process in my previous post if you need further detailed information you can go here. Here is a step by step guide to create the project and to set this project as an active project:

Screenshot_2025-01-11-10-50-13-240-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg

First of all we need to open the application and navigate to the top of the application. At the right most corner there is the settings or gear ⚙️ button. We need to select this to open the side menu to create the project.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-10-50-13-240-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg
Screenshot_2025-01-11-10-50-13-240.jpg
The side menu has opened this new interface at the left side where we can see a number of options. From the list of options here we have to select the project option. It will show further options about the project.
Screenshot_2025-01-11-10-55-13-240-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-11-11-23-08-994-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-11-11-23-08-994-387_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png
From these options I selected create projectHere I gave name and Description. I set project as an active project. Finally the project has been created and it is now active.

Here you can see I have given the project name mohammadfaisal-week4 and I have added some description for the project as well. Moreover I have set this project as an active project. In this way this project will be active. And after clicking ok the project has been created with the given name and description. And now everything which I will do in the application it will be saved in this project.

Mark at least 3 of these Coordinate Points

There are different points to mark. I will select point 2, 4, 8 to mark practically and to show the places on these points.

Point 2

  • 448205 E
  • 5411933 N
  • Zone 31

Point 4

  • 291976 E
  • 4640623 N
  • Zone 33

Point 8

  • 206912 E
  • 3009266 N
  • Zone 44

Here is a step by step guide to mark these coordinates in the UTM Geo Map application:

Screenshot_2025-01-11-12-16-41-156-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg

First of all we need to select the left most first option named Map Coordinates. You can see this option in the above picture.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-12-17-09-583-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg

This is the interface which appears after selecting the option Map Coordinates. It is showing my current location and the map of my area. At the lower side there is information about the coordinates such as Lat Long, UTM, and MGRS.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-12-22-28-034-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg

In order to search and mark the coordinates we need to select the option of search which is available at the top of the screen. I have highlighted this option with the help of the rectangular box.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-12-33-48-566-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg

Here is the box where we have to enter the information about the coordinates such as East coordinate in the first place. Then North coordinate in the second field. And at the end we need to enter the zone. And there are different types of the coordinates but I am using by default type which is UTM.

Point 2

  • 448205 E
  • 5411933 N
  • Zone 31

So at first I am adding data of the point 2 which I have selected as the first point.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-12-38-42-049_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png

Here I have added complete data of this point given by the professor. And after this we need to click on Go and it will lead us towards the point according to the given coordinates.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-13-04-24-962-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg
I have done it and finally if has led me towards this location and it is denoting the point 2 with the given coordinates. From this location I have selected a point and I have saved it with the name Eiffel Tower 🗼.

Point 4

  • 291976 E
  • 4640623 N
  • Zone 33

Screenshot_2025-01-11-13-25-13-440_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png

Here I have added the coordinates data accounting to point 4 given by the professor.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-13-30-57-768-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg
After clicking Go it showed me this area on the map. There are different places on this location such as pizza shops, roads and other things.I marked the second point of Colosseo Iconic Ancient Roman gladiatorial arena. So this is the second point.

Point 8

  • 206912 E
  • 3009266 N
  • Zone 44

Screenshot_2025-01-11-13-48-48-960_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png

By using the data of the given point 4 I have entered all the coordinates and zone.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-13-42-36-074-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-11-13-45-13-072-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg
After searching it has shown me this data and location which is my nearby country.I saw the most famous place built by the Muslims which is Taj Mahal so I have added it as the 3rd point.

So by using the coordinates of the point 2, 4, and 8 I have marked 3 points.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-14-43-24-061-edit_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.jpg

The 3 points which I have marked on the map by using different coordinates can be seen in the above picture. These are Eiffel tower, ancient Roman Arena and Taj Mahal.

Export the points you took and save them to your phone (Make sure the name of the file you save ends in ".kml")

We can easily export and save the points in our project to share with others. The process is very simple:

  • Click the menu from the right corner
  • Select Export
  • Choose file format as KML
  • Give name and Save.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-14-49-42-562_com.google.android.documentsui.png

Here you can see I have exported my file of points and the name of the file is ending with .KML format.

Import them into Google Earth and explore the places.

Now come to the major part of this learning lecture because it gave me the opportunity to explore a new application.

In order to import the file of points in the Google Earth first of all we need to download the application by following this procedure:

Screenshot_2025-01-08-07-32-02-060-edit_com.android.vending.jpg

First of all we need to open Play Store to download trusted application of Google Earth. So here I opened my play store and then I searched Google Earth. It gave me different suggestions. I selected the first option.

Screenshot_2025-01-08-07-33-56-092-edit_com.android.vending.jpg

It opened this interface where the Google Earth application was at the top. I installed this application to use it in the task completion. You can also download this application from play store in this way or you can follow this link to download it directly from the play store.

Points in Google EarthPoints in UTM Geo

In order to explore the point in detail we need to select the point and the click on Fly to. It will lead us to the location of the point.

PT_Eiffel Tower 🗼

The first point is Eiffel tower. It is the most famous place in the whole world. It attracts a number of tourists each day. Each time there are the visitors. It is situated in Paris. And Paris is famous for this beautiful tower. From the picture we can see that it is 330 m from the surface and it is a 19th century tower. As this is a tourist place so in the surrounding ngs of this tower there are parking areas and restaurants. I have a dream to see this beautiful place.

PT_Ancient Roman Arena

This is the second point which I marked and it is an Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena. It is situated in Rome. According to Wikipedia it is an elliptical amphitheatre. It is in the centre of the city Rome. It is the great monument of the Roman empire and it had 80 entrances. It was a brutal place where the gladiators fought until death. But now it has become a place for the tourists and entertainment. But due to the natural disasters it is loosing its beauty and attraction. Around this there are trees and greeny as we can see in the picture.

PT_Taj Mahal

This is one of the most famous places in the whole world and an attraction for the world wide visitors. Taj Mahal is an historical place and a love story is associated with this place. It was built by Shah Jahan. He built this Mahal for her wife as a gift for her. You will be surprised to know that the engineer who designed this Mahal lost his hands so that he could not design similar building for anyone else. It is of white colour. It is situated in India. It was built when Pakistan, Bangladesh and India was a single state and the Muslims were the rulers in the whole area. Now it is a government place open for the public and visitors. There is always rush of people. Many movies have also been recorded at this place.

So this is all about these places which I selected according to the given coordinates and zones by the professor.

Go back to UTM Geo Map and select one of those places you visited and make a polygon of the most relevant part of the place, draw some Roads and make a Buffer of 300 meters.

As per the instructions I have opened UTM Geo Map application again. I visited three different places Eiffel tower, Ancient Roman Arena and Taj Mahal. I am selecting Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena for the creation of the polygon, roads and buffer of 300 meters.

I have opened satellite map after selecting Area and Distance option from the application. And then I have zoom in to the Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena point. For the creation of the polygon I have selected polygon option from the left upper side as I have highlighted in the picture.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-17-42-15-296_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.pngScreenshot_2025-01-11-17-42-35-548_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png
After selecting all the points I have given name to the polygon and I saved it.Here you can see that the polygon has been made surrounding the Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena.
Screenshot_2025-01-11-18-04-04-620_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.pngScreenshot_2025-01-11-18-03-48-475_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.pngScreenshot_2025-01-11-18-06-15-223_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png
This is the main road around the buildingThis is the small road which links building entrance with main roadThis is another small road which links building entrance with main road

Here you can see all the roads. The normal blue line is representing the surrounding road which is the main road. And the dash and dot lines are representing the small roads which are linking the way of entrance towards the building with the main road. I increased the thickness of the lines for better visibility from the editing tools.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-18-20-00-167_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png

Here for the creation of the buffer I selected the polygon and then GIS tools and from these I selected create buffer. I gave the fixed length of 300 meters as asked. And then I clicked clicked on create buffer. As soon as I clicked a buffer of 300 meters from the polygon was implemented.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-18-20-21-658_info.yogantara.utmgeomap.png

Here you can see the buffer has been created and it is visible around the polygon. In this buffer area the roads are also included.

Locate on Google Earth (or UTM Geo Map) a relevant tourist site in your country and its coordinates.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-18-42-32-255-edit_com.google.earth.jpg

I am using Google Earth to locate a tourist place in my country. I am locating Faisal Mosque Islamabad. It is the most famous and historical place in Pakistan. It is visited by the local as well as foreigners. It was made by the arrival of Shah Faisal the king of Saudi Arabia. He gave grant for its development. It's architecture is really amazing and matchless.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-18-54-14-025_com.google.earth.png

This mosque is situated in the capital of Pakistan. Around the mosque there are mountains and greenery. It is always open for the visitors. The visitors offer prayers in this national mosque and praise it's architecture style and beauty. It is the gem of Pakistan and of Pakistani architects.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-19-14-23-657-edit_com.google.earth.jpg

Here you can see the coordinates of this place Faisal Mosque Islamabad. The coordinates are in the format of Degree, minutes and seconds. We can also convert them in the UTM format.

North (N) = 33°43'46''
East (E) = 74°02'12''

These coordinates are also visible in the picture at the market as well as at below information. Elevation for this place is 600.27m.

a) What places did you visit? Where are those places? What did you think of them?
b) Describe in detail the place you chose. What is around it? What is most relevant? What draws your attention the most?

I have visited different places today by locating them with the help of the given coordinates in the lesson. I visited these places:

  • Eiffel Tower
  • Iconic Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena
  • Taj Mahal

These are those places which I explored by navigating from the points given by the professor.

  • Eiffel Tower is situated in Paris, France.
  • Iconic Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena is situated in Rome, Italy.
  • Taj Mahal is situated in Agra, Uttar Pradesh India.

Let us explore and discuss these places in detail.

Eiffel Tower

Eiffel tower is one of the most famous places in the whole world. When I searched the coordinates given in the point 2 it led towards this area. And I saw Eiffel tower there. So without seeing for any other thing I chose Eiffel tower because of it is well known and everyone is aware of this amazing monument. Its name was suggested on the name of a person whose name ends with Eiffel because he worked for it.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-21-10-31-570_com.google.earth.png

This place is very famous. If we talk about it's surroundings then It is in the park and in the surroundings of this place there are busy roads. There are hotels and restaurants in which the tourists stay and eat. There are shopping malls around this beautiful place.

The thing which draws my attention is it's architecture style and unique design and it's height which is the most major factor which makes it look above all and distinct than other places nearby. It amazes me that how it was built with such courage and consistency while carving it beautifully.

Iconic Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena

Italy is full of historical monuments. Similarly Iconic Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Arena is an amazing monument. It is the historical place where the gladiators of Rome used to fight until death. And it has around 80 entrances due to which it stands out then other places. Moreover there is the space of around 50k people to sit. At the front there are some special seats which was given to the special guests and kings.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-21-19-09-991_com.google.earth.png

If we talk about it's surroundings then it is in the center of the city. This thing makes it look more interesting and fascinating. Around this monument there are busy roads and markets. People from any direction can easily visit this place because of extensive transport system around it. It is always full with the tourists. There is Colosseo view point around this.

The thing which draws my attention is it's unique design and architecture. I am surprised that it has 80 entrances. The more surprising and horrible things is that it was used as an arena for the gladiators to fight until death. Furthermore it is very big and have a large seating system.

Taj Mahal

I think there is no any person who is lover of tourism is not aware of this beautiful place. As soon as I entered the coordinates of point 8 given in the lesson I saw the name Taj Mahal. And except scrolling here and there I selected this place. There were other places as well along with this historical monument but because of it's popularity in this region I selected it.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-21-13-14-847_com.google.earth.png

If we talk about the things around Taj Mahal then these are always amazing and historical. In the right side there is a river. Around Taj Mahal there is Agra fort. Moreover at one side there is the tomb of Sikandar who defeated almost half of the world. More places around Taj Mahal include:

  • Itmad-Ud-Daula
  • Chini Ka Rauza
  • Mariam's Tomb
  • Ram Bagh
  • Nagina Masjid

The thing which draws my attention is the beautiful design made with the white stones. The more wondering thing which draws my attention is that it is the sign of love because Shah Jahan built it for her wife. And after the completion he ordered the security to cut the hands of the engineer who planned and made it with the help of the other workers. It is a sad thing as well associated with this place.

c) What is that tourist site in your country that you shared? Tell us about it and the things that make it unique/special.

I share Faisal Mosque Islamabad from my country. This is the national mosque of Pakistan as I have already mentioned that this mosque was built in the commemoration of the Shah Faisal visit from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan. It is also the sign of the good relationships between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia historically.

Screenshot_2025-01-11-21-20-14-639_com.google.earth.png

Here are some unique things which make it distinctive and set it apart from other mosques:

  • It was designed by Vedat Dalokay who was a Turkish architect.
  • It's design is inspired by the Bedouin tent.
  • It has towering minarets in its four sides.
  • It does not has a central dome like other mosques.
  • It is the largest mosque in Pakistan.
  • It has the capacity of 100000 worshippers to worship at a a time.
  • It is situated at the foothills of Margalla Hills.
  • It's location is also very amazing as it is situated in the capital of Pakistan.

Note: All the screenshots and pictures have been taken from UTM Geo Map application and Google Earth application.
