SEC-S20W4 | 2nd Time: Rice.

Imagine how time flies. We are already on week 4 of gastronomic class. I have found this class to be highly educational and interesting, how about you?

This week, I learned about one of my favourite meals which is rice. If am sick and my mum Cook rice and I refuse to eat, the will quickly seek medical attention knowing that am really down. This shows the extence I cherish rice. I cooks it virtually twice or thrice week.

Did you know the types of rice we mentioned in class?

Really, I do. I've seen and eaten some of the rice mentioned in this week class. The one that mostly cooks in my area and cultivates here is short grain rice. I also know of long grain rice which is commonly prepare during important event in my environment because of it appealing appearance in pot.

Talking about basmati rice, it is one of the expensive rice and it is not easily seen here. I have seen this rice once but I have never had a taste of it. I have consumed brown rice just once in a restaurant but I didn't really enjoyed it anyway. I don't know if it was because of their method of preparation.

To ground it all, I have seen about four types of rice mentioned in this week class.

We would like you to prepare a main dish based on rice or with rice as a side dish (quantity for 1 person), it is important to explain the preparation process and the result.

Rice is common grains love and cherish by millions of people globally and their different ways of preparation. In this week contest, I want to prepare a short grain rice. It will be jollof rice with fried chicken.

  • Rice
  • Onions
  • Chicken
  • Ginger
  • Crayfish
  • Green beans
  • Groundnut oil
  • Fresh pepper
  • Salt for taste
  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Seasoning cube .

As shown in the picture above, I wash and parboiled my rice and all other ingredients and set aside. With my clean and completely dry pot on a cooker, I turned in a measurable quantity of groundnut oil and allowed it on low heat for few minutes.

Adding my sliced onions was next followed by seasoning cubes, chopped green beans, ginger as well as garlic with salt for appetizing flavour and taste. I stirred while on the process for some minute for a well fried and complete mixing.

At a point, you can see the fresh tomatoes and other ingredients is properly blended🍒.

The next is to turn in my already parboiled Rice add grinded crayfish.

I added some quantity of water, taste for salt and allow it to cooked in low medium heat till the water dried off.

As you can see my delicious jollof rice is ready to serve.

In another pot, l turn in chicken add all the seasoning condiments after some minutes, I decided added a Little quantity of water so that it will be properly cooked.

When it was done, I removed from all into a clean and dry small bowl. I added as quantity of groundnut oil to a pan and turned the chicken into it for proper fried. I removed it when it turns golden brown.

I dish out a portion for one person and do some decoration using two consumables vegetables which is cucumber and fresh tomatoes(roundelle in shape).

Imagine a 3-course menu that goes with your main dish

I would love Catfish pepper soup as my starter. The main dish will be my delicious jollof rice and for dessert, I choose watermelon and apple smoothie 🥤.

Starter: Catfish pepper soup

Main dish: Jollof rice and fried chicken

Dessert :Watermelon and Apple smoothie.

I believe that the above meal... when combined... will be a source of balance diet in a right proportion. It will make a satisfied day with a good combo.

It was an awesome and exquisite experience to have learnt alot from the both courses, putting into practice by participating helped have a better results.

For pasta, I was curious and also scared of my outcome because I have never tried such for once We gets already made and cook from market, but through attaining this classes on a regular basis, I can easily and comfortably make a pasta from the scratch just for my family consumption.🥰

In this week's, I learned alot about different types of rice and how to prepare a rice as a main dish for an individual. I really enjoyed all the gastronomy classes from week one till this week four. I never fail to present my homework to the best of my ability, Although I never had 100% nor received ample rewards yet, I will never give up instead I believe that learning this course and practicing the lessons is highly beneficial to me. It is a great way of improving my cooking knowledge and skills as a mother, a wife and a steemians.

This jollof rice and chicken is mouthwatering!
I can imagine having a hot catfish pepper soup as starter before proceeding to eat this yummy meal then use chilled watermelon and apple smoothie to digest it. What an awesome combination friend!
