Clouds & Dirt

in #garyvee7 years ago (edited)

The more I think about Gary Vaynerchuck’s theory on living in the Clouds and Dirt, the more I relate. Without fully realizing it, I’ve slowly cut away huge portions of the excess in the middle. Instead, I’ve found deep interest and satisfaction at the far spectral ends of life. I encourage anyone reading to watch this short video prior to diving into my own view of clouds and dirt.

-----

I’ve found an honest joy in being completely extroverted, and also thrive on moments of quiet introversion. I hate being anywhere in between.

I love my tech, gadgets, subreddits, and social media, and also want nothing to do with them and fully support the Time Well Spent movement. I hate being anywhere in between.

I’m an eternal optimist, and also completely nihilistic. Call it hypocritical, but I hate being anywhere in between.

I love the big thoughts that tickle the most philosophical bone in my body, and I simultaneously want everything to be clear, concise and as simple as possible. I hate being anywhere in between.

I know there to be a grand destination of spiritual transcendence, but if you ask me about my religion, I’ll tell you I’m an atheist without hesitation. I hate being anywhere in between.

I want to be graceful and unblemished, and also can’t imagine a year going by without recklessly digging my hands deep into the earth. I hate being anywhere in between.

I love the whole of humanity with all of my heart, and also loath and detest people on a daily basis. I hate being anywhere in between.

I have an insatiable appetite for exploring every country and culture in the world, but I want nothing more than to sit idle in the most familiar place I know. I hate being anywhere in between.

I’ll always need to let my creative right-brain fly, and I’m obsessively compelled to find round-numbers and right-angles. I hate being anywhere in between.

I thrive in moments of improvisation and spontaneity, and equally love to be perfectly measured and calculated. I hate being anywhere in between.

This is my clouds and dirt.

I enjoy this perspective, and will play devil's advocate for a moment. The great Socrates mentions somewhere (forget which text) that our reality is a combination of opposites. This seems to be what you are getting at, but our interpretations of what this means are completely different, which I think is really cool. I'd argue that since life is a combo of these opposites, after you average them together, we essentially are all always in the middle. Life goes on these oscillations, but I find the middle very comforting. I enjoyed reading this, keep it up!

awesome beautiful pictures!!

Wow, man! Excellent captures!

But this in between stuff? What are you talking about, life?

In between is where the good shit happens.

The in between is noise for me...I like the edges and find Gary’s analogy to fit my philosophy too well.

What you said reminds me of that Adam Sandler film, Click.

He fast forwards what he considered noise. It was a rather interesting exploration of this subject, as well.

First, several of your clouds and dirt really struck a chord with me. I feel like opposing ideologies are where I live.
Second, I'm a big fan of Gary Vee but hadn't heard or seen this one before, so thanks for sharing.

This idea is clearly one that either resonates or it doesn’t. I’ve found value at the extremes and have had to intentionally move away from the middle. Glad to have pointed you to some new content and thanks so much for the attention :)

I like it ethos. Not into the whole social media thing but yer he on to something there. I sure need to expand out my ideas and stop stalling! 💯🐒

We’re all a bunch of monkeys to some degree :) He’s business at the core but digs into some deep truths that I think apply across the board.

We’re doing ok for a bunch of monkeys. Humanity rocks!

Indeed we are and were waking, nearly at that 100th one ;) 💯🐒
