๐Ÿ… Garden Wall Project Update ~ 1 Month Later

in #gardening โ€ข 7 years ago

It's amazing how fast a month has gone by, but it's even more amazing to see how much the plants have grown and to get a glimpse at how productive they will soon be.

A note from my previous post:

A few months back I wrote about Hurricane Irma passing through and tearing the place up along the way. We got very lucky compared to the islands in the Caribbean, but still had to deal with the inconvenience of widespread property damage. Over the past several months we have been discussing what we wanted to put in its place. Should we just put a hedge, rebuild the same type of tiered garden, something more simple? We decided on a more simple privacy/garden wall that would be easier to maintain, but still have an area to grow some basic food items. This is a traditional organic soil container garden, no hydroponics in this garden setup.

30 Day Comparison

Comparing to 1 month ago, the tomato plants are over 12" taller and have spread out with new node branches full of blossoms. There are currently 51 tomatoes in various stages of ripening on the vines, as well as 130 newly pollinated buds/blossoms across the 4 pots.

The cucumber plants that were just getting started how now climbed well over 3 feet up the lattice and have started producing the first little cucumber buds, 9 of them as of yesterday. I plan to guide these vines off to the left and let them spread out towards the open space on that side since the flowering vines are taking a long time to get established.

The hanging pots are now overflowing with Parsley, Cilanto, Dill, Stevia, and Basil, and the Strawberry plants re sending out runners that I will root into smaller pots.

As a side note: Having the drip irrigation on a timer has been a big help this time around for them. They no longer have to remember to water the plants, or worry about the super hot days coming up in the summer. Keeping the soil moisture fairly consistent is helping the plants grow in full and healthy.

The new deck boards will be painted this weekend and that will finish out the project.

I will give an update in a few weeks once with the first harvests.

Wow looks like good progress, Its still not quite spring for us in the UK so my plants still seedlings, good news on the irrigations I've got the same planned for my greenhouse. Thanks for sharing

Yeah, the irrigation on timers is a huge help this year. Most of my own gardens are hydroponics, but I do have some containers going this year too so I will do the same here as well.

Luar biasa. bagaimana anda bisa menciptakan wawasan dan memberikan beberapa ilmu, kutipan saya dari postingan anda sangat memajukan sarana pertanian.

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.

Wow! Looking good!
I dont know which I am more impressed by, how well your plants are growing, or that you took the time to count all the flowers and fruits! LOL!
Keep up the good work!

Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜ It started off with my mother-in-law asking how many were on the vines. I gave a rough estimate of 40 coming in, but she was doubting my number saying it was too high. So I took that as a challenge to prove my estimating skills LOL. Surprisingly enough, I was low on my guess which then lead me to counting the fully-formed/open flowers and ones I knew were pollinated to see what these things were really planning on cranking out.

Shoutout @steempowergarden. I have this passion for gardening fruits and veggies. I have gang tomatoes. They just grow so easily, but I only recently discovered that they should hang. My have been laying on the ground all this time. I appreciate your post stunner..

So great to see the progress. Spring is on the way for us in Michigan. I ordered my new day light neutral strawberries (every bearing) to replace my 4 year old. Strawberry plants reach peak production in year 3 and usually should be replaced in year 4.

Beautiful evolution in 1 month!
