Tomatoes & Lemon Cucumbers
It's Harvest Time!
Tomatoes picked fresh from the garden might be one of my most favorite things ever. Growing up we always stopped at roadside stands to buy them by the pound. A little salt and pepper and summer was made. For the last several years we have grown our own tomatoes and waiting for that first harvest is always so exciting! The sweet cherry tomatoes are just starting to turn red! By next week we should be picking by the basket full.
We don't venture too far off the tomato path but we always to try to plant one or two new things each year. This year we decided on lemon cucumbers. I had no idea how many ONE plant would produce. Wow. It has vined all the way up the trellis and we're already having to cut it back so it doesn't take over the rest of the garden.
Last night we made a nice salad to compliment our dinner and we cut into one for the first time. The outside of the fruit is covered in little spiky thorn like things so I did have to peel it, but it tasted just like a regular cucumber. It's about the size of a tennis ball and I picked it right after it started to turn a slight yellow color. Seemed to be the right time based on the taste. Pretty excited to eat them all summer long!!

Nothing better than enjoying your own harvest and following from Australia.
Thanks, Christa! It's so satisfying!
Nice harvest. That's a good accomplishment.
Pretty soon we will have more than we can eat! Love sharing with friends and neighbors.
