It Is Finally Spring (2.0/2019)

in #gardening6 years ago

Welcome back to the to the second chapter of our gardening tips and admirations. My 91 y. o. Father went to the coffee shop that our neighbors manage to scare up 3 or 4 Kgs.(6.5-8.7 pounds) of used coffee grounds that they have been saving for last couple of weeks. Ok it sounds weird, but as I commented on @alinix " Today's Tomato plant protector" article we use a little coffee ground when planting. Do look closely at the pic we don't have any of those to control bugs, check it out. and you will see why we try to use natural pest remedies and fertilizers. I have tried to explain the usage in that comment on his article, ahh if you have spotted his bug remedy throw him an up vote. just for keeping us guessing and the good photography.
My father didn't get much coffee grounds but we are only taking a chance with 18 potato plants. Due to the Temp. is supposed to drop down to +1C (34F) over night. He has about 20 more plants so we just have to re-plant 3 weeks from now cause it could still freeze over night. We usually have all little warmer spring, but not to worry we will be selling cherries, tomatoes, strawberries and rhubarb in early July and the rest in Aug & Sept. It will be lunch food on the tomato plants in late June I hope, yummy.
The ancient one (the 91 y.o.) also lost 2 hives of honey bees in Feb. this winter They were out flying in late Jan. we had a couple of weeks of warm weather, then it got sub-zero ( -19C or -2F) after that It snowed some more. My god I am so envious of people in places like southern Spain, Australia and California, it seem like they have a 10 month growing season. Around here we get 9 months of winter and 3 months of poor snowmobiling, haa not quite that bad. When I figure out how to put pics on here you may think I am living in central California, well just not so we have some dry hillsides and valleys but higher up the forest are plentiful with trees, and logging is still going steady. Enough rambling I will have some pics someday after my computer classes until then use coffee grounds when you plant and enjoy gardening.
It Is Finally Spring (3.0/2019) wil appear soon. Thanks for reading.
