Transferring plants from indoor to outdoor garden (finally!)

in #gardening7 years ago (edited)

Looks like we are finally in the clear on the east coast to transfer plants to our outdoor garden (I hope!😅) Weather has ranged from low 50s(F) up to 90 in the past week!

I hardened these plants off by bringing them outside in the morning sun for a few hours each day. By the 4th day they seemed stable enough to transplant to their beds.

Here is a picture of the indoor space I was vegging these plants in through the final weeks of winter. If you are interested, check out some of my previous posts and videos about building a space and growing indoors =)

We actually harvested a few peppers already from one enthusiastic plant. It was still in a 1 gallon pot, but loved the indoor space.. In general the chinese 5 color peppers did really well indoors.

We moved 3 different peppers to a bathtub we have, most peppers have done pretty well here in previous summers.

We put a few of these metki painted serpent melon plants in the back of this planter which were just long enough to reach the trellis. These are pretty interesting plants. They are called melons but more like a striped cucumber that grow really long and look like snakes. They are really tasty on salads or by themselves too.

I'm reusing the soil from last year, so I made about 25 gallons of solution to water everything. I added a mild macro fertilizer as well as enzymes to help revitalize the soil, and B vitamins which help reduce transplant shock.

Its been a few days now in the full sun and everything has adjusted pretty well. I had some minor leaf burn on a few of the lettuce leaves, but other than that I think they are all pretty happy to be outside😎👍
