A Houseplant Update

Here recently I have been seeing quite a bit of growth with my houseppants. There was a scare with mealy bugs, but everything seems to be making a come back.

I have also upgraded my lights. I was using 150w incandescent bulbs. Now, I have LED strips. Hopefully these do not trigger my migraines though.

Psygmorchis pusilla

A short time ago, I bought quite a few mini orchids. I am currently keeping them in a rather large Exo-Terra terrarium. They are hung on the sides of the tank, and have an automatic misting system.

I was a little worried at first. One of the orchids died rather early. Now, the plants are doing great. This can be seen with the blooming orchid above.

Tillandsia Pups

Above, one of my Tillandsia can be seen with some new growth. Two pups are growing from the mother plant at this point. They have tripled in size since I bought the mother plant.

I have many other air plants. The larger ones I purchased at the reptile expo have healed from being separated. The spot where they connected was not looking good. So I had to separate them to help them.

Banana Growth

Above, you can see an exciting new development. My dwarf banana is producing pups. Soon, a totally new plant will grow from this bud. I was really worried about this plant. The recent mealy bug infestation I had been dealing with left it a bit worse than usual.

Through the treatment and damage from the mealy bugs, this plant lost a few leafs. The newest leaf turned brown and died off. I was concerned as banana plants grow through the middle of the plant. A new leaf has been pushed out, and so I hope the plant will be alright

Sundew Growth

I had bought this plant at one of the local reptile expos. I accidentally gave it too much light, and so it died back. Now, the plant has come back. It is even producing pups.

I have put all of my carnivorous plants in the orchid terrarium for now. The automatic misting and lighting has helped some of the rescues.

To finish this post off, here is my newest plant. It is some sort of banana. I am thinking it is a dwarf kind like my other plant is. That being said, there are several cultivars and/or species it could be. I am hoping that one day, I will know the species.

I found it at a local grocery store. $16.99 USD bought it. There are a total of four plants in the pot. So the price was pretty good.
