Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic & Knuckles was developed by Sonic Team while the publisher was Sega. This video game was released in 1994 that was aimed for Sega Genesis platform. This video is included in Sonic the Hedgehog series which is the most popular video game at that time. The development of this video game began after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 released. the development of this video game and Sonic 3 was at the same time.
Actually, the Sonic Team intended to release both of video games as a single video game. It means that the player can play Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 in the single cartridge. But, because of the limitation of the time and cost of a-big-memory-capacity, Sonic Team divided the video game into two part. Sonic & Knuckles adapts a special feature named "lock-on technology" that allows the game to connect to the Sonic Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 cartridges.

Gameplay
At the beginning Since Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were developed as one game. You can see that their gameplays are similar and the genre is also the same as 2D side-scrolling. Then, their design of level, graphics, and game mechanics are also the same. However, there are some differences between this two video game. For example, in Sonic & Knuckles, the player can choose the character neither Sonic or Knuckles.
There are six levels that the players must pass by. Each level is divided into two acts. In the first act, the player fights a miniboss that is one of Dr. Robotnik robots at the end of the act. Meanwhile, the second act ends up with fighting a regular boss that is Robotnik or EggRobo in Knuckles' campaign. Sonic and Knuckles traverse pass through the levels in different ways. Sonic can jump slightly higher and use the instant-shield ability to protect himself for few second. Then he is faster than that of Knuckles, whereas Knuckles can glide, break obstacles and climb most walls.
This video game also features bonus stages. These bonus stages can be accessed by passing a checkpoint with at least having 20 rings. There are two types of bonus stage. In the first type, Sonic or Knuckles orbit float, glow spheres, and jet off each one when a button is pressed while, a fence of light approaches from the bottom. Then it will remove the player from the stage if they are touched. Meanwhile, in the second type, Sonic or Knuckles bounce around a room with a slot machine in its center with the intention of winning extra lives and power-ups.
PLOT
The time setting of this video game is right after the event of Sonic 3. Robotnik's orbital weapon named the Death Egg is destroyed when he fought Sonic and crash-lands back onto Angle island. Each zone is passed by Sonic to look and retrieve the Chaos Emerald to defeat Robotnik. But, this brings a conflict between Sonic and Knuckles because Knuckles thinks that Sonic will use the Chaos Emerald for himself.
Sonic fights and overcome Knuckles in Hidden Palace Zone. Suddenly, they hear a storm outside of the chamber and go out to discover Dr. Robotnik who is stealing the Master Emerald that is the secret to the island's levitation powers. Knuckles tries to attack Robotnik, but he is electrically shocked and trapped with Sonic in an underground tunnel. Then, Knuckles realizes that Sonic is on his side. Knuckles shows him a portal that leads them to Sky Sanctuary, where the Death Egg is relaunching. Sonic return to infiltrate the Death Egg, and takes down Robotnik as Super Sonic.

My Opinion
I have explained some important information about this video game. But, due to a lot of assignment from office, I don't have much time to play it. Now, it's time for me to write what I'm thinking about this video game. The storyline is very good where two main characters fight each other due to miss communication. The feature on this video game also is very well. A lock-on technology allows the game to be combined with other Sonic Hedgehog series. So, I give 8.5 of 10 for this amazing video game. I hope you enjoy reading my article and see you in the next post.
